Max's Story

Meet Max! Max is complete love bug.. which is problematic for photos. We try our best, but he is persistent in his quest to receive snuggles and scratches during photo ops.

Max is URGENTLY looking for help -- either a rescue/sanctuary, or an adopter -- to help him leave the shelter. Max is FELV positive, and we are working on confirmatory testing to establish next steps for him. The reality is that most people are not looking to adopt an FELV positive kitty, so we are struggling to find him placement. He is looking for a single cat home where he is a spoiled king (do you even need more cats, with how loving he is?) or a home with other FELV positive kitties (and indoor only!). FELV positive cats can live full, happy lives when kept indoors with low stress. We have known FELV cats to live into their senior years without issues, but, some may find their life expectancy significantly shortened. We believe if otherwise healthy and happy, with good quality of life, they deserve to enjoy whatever time they have left (long or short!) in a home. You can find a few resources on FELV positive kitties here:

https://www.vet.cornell.edu/.../fel.../feline-leukemia-virus
https://bestfriends.org/.../feline-leukemia-virus-felv...
https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239...

Max's adoption fee is $100 and he will be neutered before leaving, is vaccinated, FELV positive and FIV negative, microchipped, and will have received follow up confirmatory testing prior to placement with rescue OR adopters. Please call or email 630-553-9256 or animalcontrol@Kendallcountyil.gov if you have questions or are interested in helping Max.
