MAURA's Story

Mini but mighty, magnificent Maura (born in June of 2023) came to us as a transfer from Second Chance Cats in late July of 2025. They don’t have the capabilities of housing Feline Leukemia positive kitties’ long term as we do, so they reached out and asked if we had room for a pint-sized (6#) pretty lil’ lady. She had given them a run for their money when she developed an acute-onset hemolytic anemia earlier in the month, but thankfully by the time she arrived, all I needed to do was continue antibiotic and steroid therapy, treat her for internal parasites and spiff up her coat a bit. At her recheck a month later, her anemia had completely resolved, and she was blossoming in our free-roaming facility at Big Sid’s:
“Maura is such a little sweetheart and is becoming much more comfortable being handled and fussed over. I've noticed that she enjoys other cats' company and can sometimes be found curled up with one of her friends. She does still get scared and can be timid with too much activity around her. I would love to see her go home with someone that 100% understands that she will need lots of patience and time. Once in her new home, I just know she will become the best little companion someone could ask for
At first, she accepted pets in that way that appeared that she was just tolerating them and was waiting for me to leave, so I wouldn’t push it with her, and took things on her terms. I spent a fair bit of time with her of my shifts, and by early October, she was going crazy over head rubs and body pats. We have quite a fabulous biscuit maker here! She would thrive with someone who could give her one-on-one time and go slow – and steady?”
