Marie's Story
Let me tell you a little about Marie.

First of all, she is stunning! Long thick hair in a warm chocolate tabby pattern reminiscent of a Maine Coon! But she is a petite little thing, a Maine Coon miniature if you will. And she loves to be brushed. She will sit for hours and let you brush her bald if you have the time! She has the biggest, most soulful eyes, and the longest whiskers you have ever seen. She is low maintenance, doesn't scratch in inappropriate places, or jump on countertops. She will sleep with you, but not on top of you, and doesn't wake you up at the crack of down demanding food. And she is neat and tidy in the litterbox. Sounds like the perfect cat, right?

But here's the thing about Marie. Like her namesake Marie Laveau, she is a bit mysterious and she will definitely keep you on your toes! One minute she is your best friend... purring, playing, snuggling, enjoying all the pets and brushing. The next minute she decides she has had enough. Or maybe you got up and she wasn't ready for you to stop. She will let you know in an instant with a growl, a swat, and a little nip to show her displeasure. She may even follow you around a bit fretting and fussing as if it's entirely your fault and you should be ashamed of yourself! Then, just like that, she is okay again. Happy as a clam as if nothing ever happened.

We have taken her in to be medically evaluated. There is nothing physically wrong. We have tried behavior modification. We are currently trying different medications. But it looks like this might just be who she is. It might just be that she is your typical cat with just a little bit of extra sass, that is prone to the occasional temper tantrum.

All we can hope for at this point is that there is someone out there willing to give her a chance. Willing to let her be her. Willing to accept her right where she is. Because there is no other alternative for her. We are putting it all out there, and praying we find her person.

Because of her mood swings, Marie should only be adopted by someone with previous cat experience. Preferably with experience dealing with temperamental cats. She cannot be adopted into a home with children. She has been introduced to other cats, and while she has no desire to interact with them, she did allow them to be in the same room with her. We have no idea how she feels about dogs.

If you think you might be Marie's person, that special, wonderful person who will take a chance on her, please fill out an adoption application and come meet her.

Marie is 5 years old. She is spayed, vaccinated, triple tested negative, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas.
