Maple's Story
Meet Maple - She Has Tortitude. You've Been Warned.

Let's just get this out of the way:

Maple is a tortie.

A REAL tortie.

And yes...

she has opinions.

Strong ones.

Recently, Maple found herself in a veterinary office after scratching and biting someone. The situation had gotten to the point where her owner was considering euthanasia.

The veterinary team had a different idea.

Their response was essentially:

"It's a tortie. They're moody. Also... what exactly were you doing to this cat?"

So instead of allowing Maple's story to end there, they asked her owner to surrender her.

Then they started calling rescues.

And calling.

And calling.

Until they called us.

Now, I have a confession to make:

I am a tortie person.

I understand the breed's particular brand of...

Confidence
Independence
Personal boundaries
Dramatic facial expressions
And occasional "You have made a terrible decision" energy.

So when they called me, I said:

"Send me Maple."

And look at her.

Just LOOK at her.

That face is practically a legal disclaimer.

But here's the important part:

Maple isn't a monster.

She's a 1-year-old young cat who may have very definite opinions about how she is handled, and we're going to take the time to learn what those opinions are.

That's what shelters are supposed to do.

We're not going to label her based on one incident.

We're going to get to know her.

We're going to give her space.

We're going to respect her boundaries.

And we're going to figure out what makes this gorgeous girl tick.

Because underneath all that Tortitude is one seriously beautiful cat.

Look at those markings!

Her coat is an incredible mix of warm caramel, chocolate, black and copper, and those green eyes are absolutely mesmerizing.

She looks like someone took a tortoiseshell cat and turned the contrast setting WAY up.

And that expression?

Chef's kiss.

Maple is spayed, microchipped, SNAP negative, up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to start over.

She needs someone who understands that cats are not stuffed animals.

Someone who knows that consent applies to cats, too.

Someone who will let her tell them who she is instead of deciding who she should be.

And if you've ever owned a tortie, you already know exactly what I'm talking about.

You don't really own a tortie.

You enter into a negotiated relationship.

Maple is not for everyone.

But she may be absolutely perfect for someone who looks at that face and says:

"Ohhhhhh. I speak fluent Tortie."

If that's you...

Maple would like to schedule your interview.

She's got questions.

And apparently, she's got standards.

Maple - gorgeous, opinionated, misunderstood, and very much alive because someone decided she deserved the chance to be understood.

And honestly?

That's exactly why she's here.

She's a 1-year-old young cat who may have very definite opinions about how she is
