Mama's Story

Meet Mama
This beautiful girl has earned her name the hard way. Mama was abandoned at the shelter with her four tiny babies but two of them did not make it, left to fend for herself. After all she’s been through, it’s no surprise that she’s a little cautious—but behind those watchful eyes is a heart that wants to trust again.

At around 2 years old, Mama is now spayed, up to date on vaccines, and fully litterbox trained. She’s done raising her little ones and is finally ready for a life where she gets to be the one who’s cared for.

Mama may need a little time to feel safe, but with patience and love, she’ll blossom into a loyal, quiet companion. She’s the kind of cat who will curl up near you once she knows she’s truly home.

If you’re ready to show Mama what it means to be loved and safe, call 910-259-7022 or visit penderhumane.org to submit an adoption application (under the “Animals” tab). Applications can be emailed to penderhumane@yahoo.com.

She’s come a long way—now she just needs someone to believe in her.

Pender County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
Adoption Policy At Pender County Humane Society, our goal is to make lifelong matches between our animals and their families. Every adoption is carefully considered to ensure the best possible fit for both the adopter and the pet. Our adoption process includes: Adoption Application – Every potential adopter completes an application so we can learn about their home, lifestyle, and the type of companion they are looking for. Meet & Greet – If there are existing dogs in the household, we require a meet and greet to help ensure everyone gets along before adoption. Home Visit – A home visit allows us to verify that the environment is safe and appropriate for the animal and gives adopters the opportunity to ask any additional questions. Two-Week Trial Adoption – We offer a two-week trial period because we understand that bringing home a new pet is a big adjustment. This allows both the family and the animal time to determine if the match is the right one. Our commitment to our animals does not end when they leave the shelter. If, for any reason, an adoption is not successful—whether it is two weeks, two months, or even years later—we require that the animal be returned to Pender County Humane Society. We will always welcome our animals back and ensure they receive the care they need while we help them find another loving home. Our goal is not simply to place animals in homes—it is to find them the right homes where they can thrive for the rest of their lives.
