Mabel's Story

Miss Mabel is as beautiful as they come with a budding personality and quiet desire for companionship. When we found Mabel in late July she was diligently caring for four fat, happy, healthy kittens in a dumpster in Harlem. Once she came inside, it was clear she was terrified of humans but she quickly put her fear aside when she saw that we were trying to help her and her babies.

Naturally, Mabel's children were swiftly adopted as kittens always are and now we are looking for that special someone to take a chance on this stunning mama. Although we have yet to pet her with her consent, Mabel is far from the shaking, petrified girl that came to us this summer. Over the span of a few short weeks, we've begun to see her soft and playful personality peek through her walls of self-preservation. When the apartment is quiet, Mabel will often emerge to find a warm spot in the sun, preferably on a plush blanket or pillow. Rarely, when she thinks we aren't watching, we'll catch her gleefully playing with her scrunchy mouse.

Recently, Mabel has been approaching us to gently but persistently ask for tender meaty sticks, her indulgence of choice. All we have to do is stand in the kitchen and she comes plodding over, her trademark squeaks a signal for us to get her treat and get it fast. She has also become bolder with our resident cats, often seeking them out to share a bed or a ray of sunshine.

While Mabel is not a Certified Lap Cat (yet) she has a calm and kind nature about her that deserves love and adoration (from afar). We have no doubt that this tiny lady has a lot more to her, and we can't wait to find a home that is willing to wait for her to be ready to show us.
