LUKE's Story
LUKE
MALE MAINE COON MIX
BLACK MEDIUM HAIR
APPROX. DOB: 04/26/22

Luke was found dumped and trying to fend for himself by living in the empty Ohio State Football Stadium with a group of other kitties that had been left on their own. Once he was rescued, the was happy just to be indoors and with people. He loves to be held, and cuddled, petted and just with people at all times.

He was already neutered (so at some point in his life he was loved and was someone's baby). He is shy at first and will take some time to start to feel comfortable. We aren't sure what he has been through but he hides until he knows he is safe...then he can be found lounging on couches, next to his people...loving life. Luke is terrified of dogs...absolutely terrified so we think something happened to him involving dogs because it is unlike anything we have seen before. He is fine with other cats but can be shy and retreat with other cats around.

Unfortunately, after rescuing him, we got the news, Luke was FIV+. Our hearts hurt when we got this news. Not because cats with FIV can't live normal lifespans, not because they can't live with people and other cats...but because we know that historically, the poor sweet ones (they are always the sweetest ones), labeled as FIV+ are generally forgotten about. They are the ones that most people will walk or scroll right by. So now this gorgeous sweet boy's chances of ever finding his own home became less likely.

Even though studies have shown that cats with FIV+ can live a happy normal life that is as long as the average cat (with proper care and follow up for any issues that arise before they become serious) and that FIV+ cats can live very happily with non-FIV+ cats so long as they cats live peacefully together (FIV is passed primarily through bite wounds and does not spread through shared litterboxes food or households) we knew that fewer people would choose him when picking out their new family member.

We there is someone out that that will see his beautiful face and gentle eyes and want to open your heart and home to this sweet boy hat watches as the people walk by him at the PetSmart Adoption Center. He sits in his bed now knowing that people aren't coming to his cage. hope you won't feel this way. Louie is a gentle angel. He loves everyone (especially ladies and girls...it takes him longer to warm up to men...and children.) He has not been around dogs, but he is a sweetheart to other cats. He is a lover of people but if you don't understand the nature of a Maine Coon cat (they are very alpha and if they want you (which this one almost always does, he will grab your hand with both paws (his claws need to stay trimmed or this can be painful) and he pulls your hand back to him so you don't leave. He love give love bits to your hand while he hangs on to it with both paws just to show you that he loves you and that he is in charge. He is an amazingly smart and determined cat. He will need someone that respects and loves this personality. We all adore him and hope that he will soon find his people. He is going to make someone a very happy new best friend.

If you are interested in adoption Luke, please complete an adoption application online at https://form.jotform.com/251950332045046
ps://form.jotform.com/251950332045046
