Ludo the Grouch's Story

Oh Ludo! How to describe Ludo?? Ludo is quite the character. He was surrendered when his owner moved into a care facility. For a period of time sometime before that the owner had been in a facility for almost two years, with Ludo being checked in on by a friend.

He was extremely matted and honestly pretty unfriendly when he came to us, Constant hissing, swatting, acting like he wanted to bite us if we touched him. He was sedated to shave the mats off and while under had some very rotten teeth removed. Between the terrible pain of the mats and the bad teeth he was probably feeling pretty terrible. We found that immediately afterward he was MUCH more friendly.

It’s like Ludo doesn’t know how to cat. He likes to be pet, when he wants pet and how he likes to be pet. He likes his cheeks scritched and the back of his neck. I think he went an extended period of time, perhaps most of his 13 years of life not really being pet. He is front paw declawed but seems to have no issue with it. He does still hiss and give us a swat now and then if we pet him too much but alternatively gets down from the high up perch that he likes and immediately approaches when people come in. He wants to be pet but he doesn’t—this guy doesn’t know what he wants!

He will often whip his head around like he’s thinking about biting us if pet incorrectly but has not actually bitten anyone. I feel like he was so used to getting mad when touched because of the painful mats that it’s muscle memory at this point! Ludo is kind of a grump (honestly with good reason when you hear the rest of his story) but I think he still deserves a chance. He has never lived with other cats but currently free roams with 30 (which is asking a lot in itself). He has never lived with children or dogs. He will likely require brushing as his coat once it grows back is very thick and long.

Ludo is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV and heartworm disease.
*Questions?
