Louie's Story

Louie is the sweetest cat you will ever meet. This big bundle of love (he's a pudge but a big teddy bear as soon as he knows he is safe!) Louie became part of a little community of cats that was being fed by a group of neighbors in teh short north area. He loved people, visited everyone, and showed up where he knew he could find dinner. He lived in that neighborhood, happily accepting any love and any food he could get for almost four years before one of the neighborhood caregivers noticed that he wasn't eating well. That he was shaking his head when he was eating. Checking his mouth (yes this little guy who had been living on his own under decks, in little shelters made by the neighbors, living on the food he could find going door to door, allowed the neighbor to open his mouth and check his teeth. They were bad, she could see. So she contacted PetPromise and asked if we could take him in due to the severity of the dental issues she saw.

We knew we couldn't leave him outside fending for himself with the condition his mouth was in so we took him in and took him in to be seen by the vet. He was already neutered (so at some point in his life he was loved and was someone's baby), he definitely needed serious dental care (as expected) but we also found out that the big sweet boy with the sad face (his face always looks sad even though his a very happy boy) has FIV. Yest another blow for Louie. Now his chances of ever finding his own home became less likely.

Even though studies have shown that cats with FIV+ can live a happy normal life that is as long as the average cat (with proper care and follow up for any issues that arise before they become serious) and that FIV+ cats can live very happily with non-FIV+ cats so long as they cats live peacefully together (FIV is passed primarily through bite wounds and does not spread through shared litterboxes food or households) we knew that fewer people would choose him when picking out their new family member.

We hope you won't feel this way. Louie is a gentle angel. He loves everyone (especially ladies and girls...it takes him longer to warm up to men...and children.) He has not been around dogs, but he is a sweetheart to other cats. He is gentle and lays with them, rubs on them and is the all-around best friend for other friendly cats. He always has a sad little face...but we can assure you he is a happy little guy. He follows his lady fosters around rubbing on their legs, jumps up on the bed to be petted, and has the loudest purr. He is a very special boy and will make a perfect love for someone out there.
