A few kind souls had stopped and were using their cars and hazard lights to keep him from being hit. Lauren pulled over, approached him...and Licorice apparently decided he had seen enough of the outside world for one day.

He walked right up to her, climbed into the front seat of her car, and settled in for the ride to NFSAW. No drama. No fighting. Just one very confused little black cat who seemed to understand that someone was finally there to help him.

And honestly? For a cat who had just been through that much stress, Licorice is remarkably sweet. He is not a mean cat-he's affectionate, gentle and clearly happy to have a safe place to land. He may look a little serious in his pictures, but don't let that face fool you. He's mostly just trying to figure out how he went from Barnum Road to the cat room in one afternoon.

For now, Licorice is on a mandatory 5-day stray hold in case his owner is looking for him. We're hoping, of course, that someone is missing this handsome boy and comes forward. If no owner is located after the hold, we'll move forward with getting him ready for adoption.

He'll be neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and SNAP tested before he's ready to find his new home. And yes, the microchip is particularly important in this guy's case-we'd like to make sure his next adventure involves a loving home, not another roadside mystery.

Licorice is a smaller-sized adult boy with a big personality, beautiful amber eyes and an impressive ability to keep his cool when the world around him gets chaotic.

And selfishly, I have to admit...Licorice is one of my favorite snacks. So naturally, I'm already a fan.

If you're looking for a sweet black cat who has already proven that he knows exactly what to do when a good human comes along, keep an eye on Licorice. His next chapter is coming soon.
