Leela's Story
No, Leela isn't winking at you - she only has one eye! Leela came to us as a stray with an eye that was badly infected, and actually had to be given eyedrops for a couple weeks until the swelling had gone down enough for us to safely remove it. During this time, Leela was very shy, but never aggressive. She would just hunker down in her litter box and endure our poking and prodding as best she could. If we picked her up, she'd tuck her face into the crook of our arms and just wait for us to put her back down.

Once her eye was removed and she was no longer in pain, she really perked up and began showing her sweet personality. Leela loves pets and ear-scratches, and will even roll over and show her tummy to us when she's extra happy, but what really makes her happy is playing with other kitties. While in quarantine, Leela was constantly stretching her paws out as far as they could go to bat at the other cats coming to check her out. When a kitten or cat batted back, Leela would roll all around trying to catch their paws. Even now that she's in a kennel in gen pop, she is always trying to poke her sleeping neighbors to try and entice them into playing.

Leela was actually adopted a couple of years ago, but returned due to no fault of her own when her adopter's housing situation became unstable. Leela completely blossomed in a home. Her adopter said she was the sweetest, most loving girl, a total velcro cat who always wanted to be by her side. Her adopter said she is playful, curious, loving, and amazing for emotional support when she was having a hard day. Leela could always tell when something was wrong, and knew when her adopter needed comfort the most. She had an emotional support taco toy that she carried with her wherever she went, and slept with at night.

Despite only having one eye, Leela can get around like any other cat. She does get a little spooked when something comes up on her blind side. She loves toys, and goes wild over cat teasers.

Leela does well with the other cats at the center, although she is still not quite up to running around and playing. Her adopter said she met a few dogs, and did okay with them after a slow introduction where she knew they wouldn't hurt her. We would not recommend her for a home with small children, since she can be spooked by a lot of movement or loud noises, but older, gentle kids should be okay.

Leela is estimated to be about a four and a half years old as of September 2025. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. With an approved application, her adoption fee is $37.10.

If you are interested in adopting this particular cat or kitten, please see our Adoption Guidelines at http://www.humanesocietyall.com/applications/ .
