Lea's Story

Meet Lea, a six-month-old female cat.

Lea’s story is a heartbreaking one. She was found in a car alongside two dogs and her owner, who had unfortunately passed away. Since coming into our care, it’s become clear that she hasn’t had much socialization, and the world can feel like a big, scary place to her right now.

Lea is not your typical cuddly house cat—but that doesn’t mean she isn’t deserving of love and a chance at a better life. She is still learning to feel safe around people and tends to keep her distance. Because of this, we believe she would thrive most in a barn or working cat environment, where she can have shelter, regular meals, and gentle care without the pressure of close human interaction.

That said, Lea does show little glimpses of curiosity—especially when it comes to toys—which gives us hope that, with time, patience, and a very understanding adopter, she could continue to grow.

If you’re considering welcoming Lea into an indoor home, please know it will take a significant commitment. She will need time, consistency, and a lot of patience to build trust at her own pace.

Lea may not be the kind of cat who curls up in your lap, but she still deserves safety, stability, and kindness. Whether as a barn companion or a long-term project for a dedicated adopter, she’s waiting for someone willing to meet her where she is.

This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal, please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.

Ready to adopt? Great news-our spayed/neutered pets are available to go home the same day!
