Largely - he's the purry head-butt you really need to get off of your chest!'s Story

Got someone on your chest you need to get off? No? Then it’s a sure thing you’re not living with Largely, the undeniably overweight armful of loving tuxedo. Please read about him below and if you like what you read, send your answers to the questions listed below to philoctete@mailbug.com (please send them in the body of your email and not as an attachment - thanks!) and you will receive a prompt reply. Honestly! (He still needs to find a living home if you are reading this post.)

He’s a feline penguin you can’t help loving back, especially (oof) when he does that very special thing of planting himself on your chest, with a paw on each side of your neck, gazing with admiration into your perhaps less-than-admirable face. That’s the best place from which to give you his emphatic (but not too painful) head-butt, a sign of affection you will welcome except when you are trying to sleep (that’s a point against him - his bedtime head-butting). He’s so happy on your chest like that - it’s a cozy moment you won’t want to end.

More conventionally, perhaps, he will also sit on your lap and that’s oh-so-comforting too - for both of you! Please note, though, that he is not a Velcro cat and sometimes he chooses to show his love for you by sitting at the bottom of your bed, his back turned towards you, or sitting on the back on a sofa you’re sitting on, just behind your head. He’s not always right on top of you, but, given his avoirdupois, that’s not always a bad thing.

I once read in a book that the author used to praise his wife by calling her a “cheerful little armful”. Largely makes me thinks of that phrase - when you hug him and hold him close to you, he really fills your arms.

Largely likes swatting around at a fabric wand toy, but in general his person/physical trainer is going to have a challenge keeping him active, because his nature is to be sedate (except for taking ineffectual runs and leaps at a window screen when a bird flits outside it) and he’d rather sit around than run around. His extra weight is probably somewhat uncomfortable for him. He has a gentle, almost babyish me(o)w he primarily uses when seeking reassurance from you.

This kitty (three years of age as of Autumn 2025) is fastidious about litterbox and is not destructive, unless you have a wonky heating vent (he lives to pick off insecure vent grates and crawl behind them). He can be messy when covering up his litterbox deposits or trying to cover up food he is critical of. The most important drawback to be aware of is that, being self-conscious and lacking confidence, he can feel very intimidated by certain other kitties, but not others. He’ll be very companionable and chill with some kitties, and still other cats he will lash out at. I am afraid I can’t predict, if you already have a feline residing in your home, whether he’ll be that kitty’s pal & ally, his/her victim or his/her bully.

Additionally, he’ll be shy in a new environment at first - not up-the-walls skittish, but definitely hide-under-the-bed in a sort of gentle, friendly, coaxable way. A person looking to bond immediately would, I think, be disappointed.

If you feel you could take a chance on a trial adoption, because you’ve decided that you need more hugs in your life, please send in your answers to the questions below. If you sound like a great match, you’ll be given references to check for Affectionate Adoptions and will be asked for a reference in return (vet reference or related to your employment/solvency). After that exchange, he comes right to your home! Thanks for your interest in him and your time!

1. What brands and types of food do you intend to feed him? Canned, dry, raw/homemade? If a combination, what ratio of wet to dry? Would dry food be left out during the day or overnight?

2. What type of water and what brand(s) of litter would you offer?

3. Could you say what kind of housing you would be sharing with him (rented house, owned apartment, yurt, trailer, etc.), please?

4. Who are all the people and the non-humans who would be sharing it with you and him (if there would be any)?

5. Under what circumstances would you consider parting ways with him (please note that if at any time for any reason you no longer want him in your household, we want to take him back to find him a permanent home - we are 100% no-kill and will always find him a forever place to be loved)?

6. Are you thinking of having him be an indoor cat, an outdoor cat, or an indoor/outdoor cat with you?

7. What are your views, pro or con, on neutering/spaying?

8. What are your views, pro or con, on declawing?

9. Could you give some personal information - for instance, what job/profession/source of income you have, what you are studying and where if you’re a student, what your lifestyle/hobbies/interests/leisure pursuits are, your age or approximate age. This information can really be of use for ensuring he’s the best match for you - thanks!

[Optional] 10. Was there anything about him in the pictures or the write-up that particularly called to you or spoke to you about him?
