LaVergne's Story

LaVergne (DOB April 2023) came to Safe Haven from a New Hampshire
shelter in April 2024. Shortly after arriving, she gave birth to four kittens -
Eudora, Arista, Felicity, and Coco - in May 2024. She was a wonderful,
devoted mother, and all of her babies have since been adopted. Now, sweet
LaVergne is patiently waiting for a forever home of her own.

LaVergne is a beautiful tortoiseshell kitty with big, bright, expressive eyes.
When she first arrived at Safe Haven, she was timid, solitary, and very
cautious, preferring to stay tucked away in her safe space. Thanks to the
patience and dedication of our volunteers, who have spent many hours
gently socializing with her, LaVergne has made steady and heartwarming
progress.

She has come out of her shell and now enjoys hanging out with her
roommates. LaVergne loves playtime and is very lively and animated with
her toys - she enjoys batting, pouncing, and even chasing her own tail. She
especially loves lounging on the highest perch in the room. During quiet
moments, she makes lovely eye contact and offers gentle blinks, a clear sign
of growing trust.

While LaVergne is still a bit shy and can be cautious with quick movements
or petting, she clearly wants to be friendly. Treats are the way to her heart -
if you place them down and give her space, she will happily come forward to
enjoy them. Some volunteers have even earned the honor of having her lick
squeeze treats right off their fingers.

LaVergne has never shown aggression; if she’s unsure, she simply backs
away. With time, patience, and a calm, quiet environment, she will continue
to blossom and become a wonderful companion. For someone who
understands that trust is built gently, LaVergne will be a truly special and
rewarding addition to their home.

LaVergne would do best in a quiet home with adults and older children, and
with minimal distraction where she can feel safe and respected. She would
enjoy the companionship of another quiet cat in the household, or a kitty
she is friends with at the shelter.

LaVergne requires someone who is willing to invest a little time in the
socialization process and provide plenty of active play. Like all cats coming
from a shelter there is an adjustment period, and LaVergne needs just a bit
of patience and understanding, allowing her to become comfortable in her
forever home. We feel confident she will shine as a gentle and observant
companion. If you’re looking for a fun-loving cat to keep you company,
LaVergne is ready to move in and make your home her favorite playground!

To meet LaVergne and visit the shelter located at the Thrift Shop/Cattail
Farm, 1784 Post Road, Wells, ME (Route 1), please click on the link below to
fill out an adoption application.
