Kona (Wii Play Fishing)'s Story

Meet Kona!

Approximate DOB: 10/27/24
medically ready for adoption: mid January

Kona is a stunning young calico mama with a heart as big as her personality. Early in life, her powerful maternal instincts took center stage-she gave everything she had to caring for her babies, even at the expense of her own health. Thanks to lots of love and care, Kona is now healing, growing stronger, and learning that it's finally her turn to be cared for.

While that nurturing spirit is still part of who she is, Kona has shifted her focus to enjoying life and getting ready for a forever home where she can truly thrive. She's still quite young, which means she's playful, curious, and full of charm. One of her favorite activities is lounging by the window, watching birds and offering her very vocal commentary on their behavior.

True to her calico nature, Kona has strong opinions and isn't shy about sharing them-she's expressive, chatty, and loves to "talk" to her people. Just as strong as her voice is her affection: Kona is a loving, people-oriented cat who enjoys attention and close companionship.

Kona is almost ready to leave her mama days behind and become someone's cherished companion. If you're looking for an affectionate, playful, and spirited cat with a resilient heart, Kona may be the perfect addition to your home.

FOSTER-TO-ADOPT PROGRAM
Not sure if a particular pet will be the perfect match? Our Foster-to-Adopt program is the way to go FMCA's foster-to-adopt program is essentially a trial period so you can be sure your selection is a good fit for your home and family. This is especially helpful if you have other pets and children or just need more time to make a final decision.

FOSTER-TO-ADOPT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
The Foster-to-Adoption program requires a fully approved application. Applicant must be 21 years old All applicants must complete an application, undergo a residency and vet verification plus a virtual interview/home visit prior to application approval. We also require a drivers' license, or other form of ID, for each adult in the household.

CAT ADOPTION APPLICATION
We process adoptions through ShelterLuv. The first step is to complete an application:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FMCA/Cat

If you do not have a specific pet in mind, please list a general description of what you are looking for, i.e. adult female cat or pair of kittens or unknown, etc. under the section titled "Which animals are you interested in?" This will allow us to quickly determine if we may have what you are looking for readily available or in one of our foster homes still going through the vetting process.

You will hear from us in the next few days. Please note, FMCA is an all-volunteer organization and most of our volunteers work full-time, so please be patient.

After an applicant is fully approved and an appropriate pet is selected, we will coordinate pet transfer. We will stay in touch to monitor during the two-or three-week trial period. If it's a go, we will finalize the adoption electronically. During the trial period, we are always available to help with items such as getting pets settled in, pet introductions and ways to help shy pets acclimate. If things don't work out, the pet will return to FMCA.

Please email us at info@fmca.org with any questions regarding the adoption process.

Friends of Montgomery County Animals Inc.'s Adoption Policy
What is the process to adopt? After you decide which animal you wish to make a member of your family, you will be required to complete an adoption application form, which will be reviewed by a volunteer who will interview you. If all is in order, you will sign an adoption contract where you promise to meet certain criteria for care of the animal. You will also receive a copy of the medical form which contains information such as tests, vaccines, etc. that have already been done for the cat. These foster cats live in the Germantown, MD area, and FMCA requires a home visit for adoption. So any potential adopters should be in or near the Montgomery County, MD area. For more information, email info@fmca.org. How much does it cost to adopt a cat/kitten? There is an $125.00 CASH donation required. What does this fee cover? The $125.00 adoption donation covers veterinary care that we have already done up to the date of adoption, including the spay or neuter of the animal. Every kitten, cat, puppy or dog will altered before the animal is adopted. The minimum veterinary care for the $125.00 fee is a feline leukemia/FIV test, 2 distemper vaccines, a rabies vaccine, 2 dewormings, and the spay/neuter. You may need to continue the vaccine process with your veterinarian. What happens if I adopt a cat or kitten and it just doesn't work out? We require that the animals be returned to us. We will work with you to find one that is a better match, if you desire. Also, if you can no longer keep a cat after X number of years, please contact us. We will make every effort to bring the cat back into the FMCA adoption system and find it another home; however, this decision depends upon current health and/or behavioral issues the cat may have developed. It also depends on the availability of foster care. Can my adopted cat be an indoor/outdoor cat? No. Cats that are adopted from FMCA must live indoors. The exception to this is a cat that comes to the group as an indoor/outdoor cat, and we are sure it will not adapt to an indoors-only lifestyle. In that case, we try to place the cat in as safe a neighborhood as possible. Can I de-claw my adopted cat? NO! If you must have a declawed cat, we will be glad to show you what we have available that has already been declawed by a previous owner. FMCA is greatly opposed to declawing. We will show you how to trim nails and give you information on training the cat to scratch in appropriate places.
