Koala aka Jack-Jack aka Melanie 's Story

How did I end up being saved as a tiny baby and still at this shelter over two years later? Oy. Life really isn't fair. But I'm hoping you can change that for me.

I, along with my siblings and my mom, were the very first residents of a shelter space that a rescue group got back in April 2021. We were really grateful to be saved! And they brought our mom inside too, even though she's feral, and they kept her so she can live a long life and be safe indoors.

As we were growing up, a lot of other kittens arrived. Then a lot of us got sick. Two of my siblings died, despite all of us receiving the best care in the hospital for a week. A lot of things changed after us survivors pulled through, and adoptions were put in hold for a long time. Then when adoptions resumed, me and my two remaining brothers fell into the background, and they forgot about us. Now we're 2.5 years old and still waiting for homes of our own.

I am actually super cuddly and affectionate, but I'm never given the chance to show it because there are just too many cats there, and there's not enough time, food, toys, or anything for us to be shown individual attention the way we used to have it when we were babies. We deserve a lot more. But I understand how it goes and that I'll only get the life I deserve if I get adopted.

I have a really good sense of humor. I'm also really quiet, in fact, legend has it that no one has ever heard me meow or cry in my entire life. My original name was given to me because I used to cling to my mom like a baby koala when I was a baby. I was believed to be a boy until they brought me in at the end of 2021 to get neutered, and instead I got spayed because I am a girl! But I was being called Jack-Jack around that time and the name still stuck. I also answer to Melanie. I know all three of my names because I'm a very smart and clever kitty.

I do fine with other cats but I feel like if I was the only cat, I can finally have a good life, with the attention and space I deserve to thrive. I have been with so, so many cats for my entire life, and it's crowded in here! So I wouldn't mind having my own space.

Please consider helping me out! I promise to be your constant companion and friend until the end.
