KITTYA's Story

Happy Fall! The calendar might say we are in the "ber" months, but the temperatures are still warm! That means we are still struggling through kitten season. We desperately need to make room to get Moms, kittens and other cats in and fixed before the cold comes. Please consider adopting! And tell your friend to adopt too! We still have lots of kittens and some of our older cats have been here awhile, so there is a cat for everyone!! Remember,
adopting saves TWO cats lives! Adopting one cat will free up a cage so we can help another. Together we can make countless more cats & kittens lives better. Win! Win! The kitties thank you too!

A few of our longer term residents at the shelter are hoping for miracles too! A few years ago, I was living outside in the cold. I was hungry and I just wanted to be warm, at least for one night. You see it's hard finding food and a warm place to sleep when you're a homeless kitty, some people are nice and sometimes aren't. One really cold night, I was looking for food, but I found a warm spot! I crawled up into this warm spot and the next thing I knew, I was moving and in extreme pain, but I couldn't move. Well, my warm spot was next to a car engine and the car was started. I was moving and my arm was stuck. I was so scared but fortunately when the car stopped ( like 15 miles away!) a person was able to get me out and they brought me to the shelter. The shelter took me to the vet and they had to remove one of my front arms. At least it didn't hurt anymore, but then I had to adjust to only having three legs. I've mastered it now, but it took awhile. I hope I won't be put back outside. Since I lost a front leg, I can't run very fast, so if something is chasing me I might not get away. The problem is I'm still a little unsure and shy around people- especially new ones. I like some people at the shelter and I'll let them get a few pets in but only in my terms. I do like other kitties! I can usually get a long with any new kitty! I'm really used to this new indoor life! Maybe I need some one on one time with a person to develop a real bond and then I'll be able to put my old life behind me? I know I need a person that will give me time to settle in with them and to be patient with me while I get used to my new life. I think if someone wanted to give me a chance, then I could trust them over time. Maybe I could let my guard down and be a kitty again?!
I'm waiting for the right person who can give me that.
I would definitely be a good friend if you're kitty is looking for a new buddie!
I know I'm not a kitten anymore. I know I'll be passed over for being shy AND for being older but I'm still hoping someone is willing to give me a chance. I still want to be loved and have a real home too!
I'm at the shelter now, so please come by to see me! I like other kitties, so a home with another kitty (with the proper introduction) would be the best! Since I'm shy, your kitty will help me blossom into the kitty I want to be and show me people are okay. I want a quiet home , so no dogs and no kids. I think a quieter home would help me feel safe.

If you have some patience and are looking for a kitty that really needs a home, I hope you'll consider me! I'll always be there for you and will can be friends. I'm might even start liking some pets too! Please make an appointment to meet me at the shelter, Id like to get out of here to start a new chapter of my life!

Please call 219-922-1766 to meet Kitty A!
Kitty A will not be a "normal" kitty when you take her home. She will need time to adjust. She will need her own space for awhile while she gets used to an actual home. Kitty A has shown some interest in pets, so we think she could blossom into a great kitty companion! Please consider her special needs if you decide to give her a home. It would set her back trusting people to be returned after a few months. She needs someone who will really be there for her and let her decide, at her own pace, when to trust. If you have the patience and heart to help a kitty like Kitty A, please fill out an adoption application which can be found online at TreasuredFriendsRescue.org or follow the link from our profile at Petfinder (scroll down to the bottom of the homepage for the adoption application link)!
*****************************************
Griffith Animal Control, in partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue believes in giving kitties that others wouldn't give a chance, a helping hand at getting a forever home. Our volunteers work with shy and/or unsocialized kitties everyday to gain their trust to show them they are safe and no one will hurt them. However, when the kitties go to a new home, some will require extra time to get used to new surroundings and different people. Please consider giving a kittie who might need a little time to get used to a new home, a chance. This is a serious commitment and it sets the kitties back in their level of trust if they are given up after a few weeks or months. We are always here to help with any questions Please, only apply if you are an experienced cat owner or are willing to provide patience and good forever home.
Thank you!
