KIKI's Story

Kiki is fully integrated into her foster home and confidently roams the house. She is an outgoing, curious explorer who loves to watch everything and everyone around her. Kiki enjoys affection, but only on her terms, and prefers to be in control of when and how she’s touched. She has a high tolerance for noise and visitors, but also values her independence and personal space. While she will occasionally cuddle with Seymour, she is quick to set boundaries if he becomes too pushy. Kiki is happiest when she has her own food station and litter box. She is not a fan of dogs—especially those who chase her—but handles a busy environment with confidence.

Seymour is an affectionate marshmallow of a cat who is deeply fearful and sensitive to his surroundings. In a busy household, he spends most of his time in a safe den under a bed and will only socialize when the environment is calm and dogs are out of sight. When Seymour feels safe and secure, he is incredibly loving and enjoys intense face snuggles, brushing and grooming, belly rubs, and chase games. Because he is not yet comfortable enough to groom himself regularly, he currently has some dandruff and mild odor issues, which are expected to improve significantly in a quieter, low-stress home where he can relax and move freely.

These two will require an adopter who understands that a lengthy adjustment period—especially for Seymour—is normal and expected. Seymour needed over two weeks of complete, quiet isolation before he would tolerate any human interaction. During that time, even routine care such as feeding or cleaning his space resulted in hissing, swatting, and defensive behavior. Progress came through patience, respecting his boundaries, and calm companionship. A Feliway diffuser was helpful, and trust began to build through multiple sessions of quietly offering high-value treats (especially tuna) while ignoring him. He is comfortable leaving his space when no one is present, so a setup with food and litter located separately to minimize stress would work well.

Seymour now allows all family members to pet him, provided the environment is calm and dogs are out of sight. However, a loud and active household with dogs and young children is not an ideal long-term fit for him. He is expected to thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home. I’m currently in a loving foster home offsite! Please contact my foster parent, Alexie, at armapson@gmail.com to ask questions or set up a visit. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response. Inquiries are answered in the order received, and the foster parent will let you know your place in line if there are other interested adopters. A meet-and-greet is required before adoption. Adopters should be available to meet within 48 hours of inquiring; otherwise, preference may be given to the next person in line who can meet sooner. For everyone’s safety, current pets do not meet the foster animal before adoption. After the meet-and-greet, you will have 24 hours to visit the HSPPR Adoptions Lobby (11:00am–4:30pm) to complete paperwork and finalize the adoption.

You’ll notice each pet will have an info card attached to their kennel with an ID number. Write down this ID number so a matchmaker can give you more information. You will also be asked to complete an adopter survey to help our matchmakers assist you in finding a new pet that’s just the right fit. We limit visitations to two pets per family, per day. This ensures everyone interested in adopting has the opportunity to spend time with their potential new family member. Puppies and kittens 5 months and younger are not able to visit before going home for adoption. Please speak with a staff member for details. Once your visit is complete, you will meet with a customer service representative. We will review any special medical or behavior information and offer tips on how to help you get settled in. Please bring a photo ID and review any pet restrictions that may exist within your lease/rental agreement, HOA bylaws, or city’s ordinances.
