Katniss- Appointment only's Story

Hi… my name is Katniss.

I’m going to be honest with you, because I don’t know how to pretend everything is okay anymore.

I’m really struggling here at the shelter. Every day is loud and overwhelming, and there are so many other cats around me all the time. The noises, the smells, the constant movement—it’s just too much. I’m scared more often than not, and I startle easily. My heart is always racing, and I never really feel safe.

When I get overwhelmed, I sometimes swat. I don’t do it because I’m mean or angry—I do it because I’m terrified and don’t know how else to ask for space. I wish people could see past that and understand that I’m just a frightened cat trying to protect myself in a world that feels too big and too loud.

What I need is a very quiet, calm home with patient adults who understand that trust takes time. I need to be the only pet, with no other animals and no chaos—just soft voices, gentle routines, and someone willing to let me decompress at my own pace. I may hide at first. I may need space. But if you give me time and kindness, I promise I’ll try my best.

I truly believe that somewhere out there is a home where I can finally exhale, where I won’t feel like I’m constantly on edge. In the right environment, with patience and understanding, I know I can blossom into the sweet cat I’m meant to be.

Please don’t give up on me. I’m just waiting for someone to see me—not the scared shelter cat, but the hopeful one underneath who just wants to feel safe.
