Kat's Story
**NOTE: All AVA kittens under 12 months of age MUST be adopted in pairs or to a home with another young cat. AVA does not accept applications for single kittens**

Kat is a gentle, affectionate cat who loves being close to her humans. Once she feels safe, she turns into a total cuddlebug — happy to be petted, doesn’t mind gentle handling, and always ready to curl up beside you. She has a wonderfully sweet temperament and an easygoing, calm personality.

Because Kat is extra shy when she first meets someone (shyer than many cats), she may need a little time to settle in. During her first week, it’s normal for her to choose a safe hiding spot — often under the bed at the beginning. The good news: even while she’s still nervous, she’s gentle and trusting. If you offer food, speak softly, and give her space, she’ll often allow gentle pets and start building confidence. As she warms up, Kat likes to observe from cozy, covered places — tucked behind furniture or under something soft — while she decides you’re her person.

Not just a pretty face, Kat is also very smart. If you put a few wand toys in front of her, once she has her cuddles in, she’ll use her paw to indicate the one she wants to play with and to let you know when it’s time to change to a new one!

Kat’s intelligence extends to understanding what she is/isn’t supposed to do – for example, she doesn’t jump up on counters or tables or rush the door. A soft but firm, “Gentle” or “Not that” can be used to communicate, and she responds appropriately.

Kat has excellent litter box manners, and she’s a moderate-energy cat. She’s not a night yowler — she’s quiet overnight — though she may do a bit of pre-bedtime zooming around to play and burn off energy before settling in.

Kat’s love language is closeness: she adores gentle head-bumps, rubbing against you, and then flopping right into your arms for pets. She also loves sleeping with people and burrowing under blankets to make a warm little nest. A super cute quirk? Kat loves watching screens — TV and especially your phone. If you’re scrolling, she may stretch out beside you and “watch” along (she’s a fan of cat short videos!). She’s also delightfully curious about whatever you’re eating and will politely come over to sniff and investigate.

Kat likes other cats and would probably like a young friend to play with, but they may need to be on the same diet. Kat is eating Purina ProPlan Adult Essential Care (Chicken and Rice) can and dry food to help prevent a minor rectal prolapse that was happening for a while, and this food combination is helping the prolapse from recurring.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loving companion — and you’re willing to give a shy girl about a week to feel at home — Kat will reward you with endless affection, cozy cuddle sessions, and the cutest little movie nights.

Would you like to make Kat a part of your family? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, first-round of age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption, flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $275 for each kitten up to 12 months old. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.

All AVA kittens 12 months or younger must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another young cat (3 years or younger). Kittens learn from each other how to behave, which helps them turn into well-adjusted adult cats. In general, paired cats have happier and healthier lives because they have a constant companion and playmate. Plus, it’s twice the fun for you, and half the work!
