Kara's Story

***Kara is a timid cat who may do well with the assurance of other cats in order to thrive. We are hoping she can go home to a friendly, easygoing cat or two.

No one knows where Kara came from. She followed other homeless cats to this kind person’s backyard feeding station one cold day in December, and although she was scared of the humans, hunger drove her back to the same home day after day as options were limited. She got closer and closer to the feeder until she was finally rescued and brought indoors.

Once vetted and given a clean bill of health, Kara began her lessons in earnest. This lovely but oh so timid tabby girl has not a mean bone in her body, just really really scaredy ones. Although she is still nervous about being petted, she doesn’t fight the hand or strike out. It breaks the heart to know that she is so happy being inside, warm and fed every day, but the avoidance instinct is still warring with acceptance of touch. Kara welcomes visits from the resident cats, and is far more comfortable with cat company at this point of time.

We believe that this timid and sweet kitty may be a shadow cat who would do best with patient, gentle handling of a family experienced and wanting to work with shy cats, or simply content to have a cat who may only ever wish to just be there and not quite engaging. The guidance and comfort of a friendly, easygoing cat or two who can ease the way for Kara to integrate more would be of great help. For more info on shadow cats, please refer to our link: https://www.avacats.org/choosing-the-right-cat.

Shy cats need people too, more so than the outgoing ones! It will be so gratifying to know that Kara will never be hungry, cold and alone again, and that her family will always be there for her to come out of the shadows if and when she is ready.

Would you like to make Kara a part of your family? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
