Kacey's Story
Kacey (dob 06/2023) was rescued by Safe Haven on June 26, 2024 while pregnant. She delivered her three kittens at the shelter on June 27.

Kacey arrived at Safe Haven Humane Society very scared and under-socialized,
unsure of the new world around her. At first she preferred to stay hidden and observe from a distance.

With time, patience, and gentle care from our volunteers, Kacey slowly began to trust. As she grew more comfortable, her true personality started to shine. She has come out of her shell in wonderful ways, and has shown her playful, curious side. Kacey loves to play with wand toys and will jump down from her perch to join in the fun with the other cats. She enjoys licking squeeze-ups from the volunteer’s fingers. She appreciates being with her feline roommates but is also happy on her own.

She has made great progress since arriving at Safe Haven, no longer tensing up or dilating her eyes in fear. She now blinks when being spoken to, a true sign of acceptance. However, she still needs some time to gain confidence and assurance. When it comes to humans, Kacey is still learning to trust. She can be cautious with people and prefers to keep her space. If you approach too quickly or attempt to touch her, she may become a little guarded and will let you know when she is uncomfortable. She is not mean, she’s simply communicating her boundaries. Dedicated socializers at Safe Haven have already worked with Kacey over many hours to prepare her for adoption.

Kacey would do best with an adopter who has a lot of experience with shy or reserved cats and is willing to invest time in the socialization process. Like many shy cats coming from a shelter there is an adjustment period and Kacey requires patience and understanding, allowing her to blossom at her own pace.

Kacey would do well on her own, or with another cat she is already friendly with from our shelter, or with an existing calm and quiet cat that welcomes a new friend.

The rewards of rescuing and nurturing a cat like cat Kacey are immeasurable. Kacey would do well in a quiet home with adults where she can be the sole focus of her owner's affection.

If you believe you can provide the loving home Kacey deserves, please consider adopting her. Together, you can create a bond that will last a lifetime.

To meet Kacey and visit the Safe Haven shelter located at the Thrift Shop/Cattail Farm, 1784 Post Road, Wells, ME (Route 1), please go to our website and fill out an adoption application. We will be in touch to make an appointment for your visit.

Adoption Applications:
https://www.safehavenhumanesociety.org/adoption-form/

If you have any questions regarding a cat located at the Cattail Farm please contact: shelly@safehavenhumanesociety.org

Filling out an application is not a commitment to adopt!
