Jupiter's Story

Some kittens walk confidently into your life and immediately demand attention. Others need a little more time to discover that people can be trusted. Jupiter is one of those special kittens.

She has had a rough start to life, but with patience, understanding and the right person by her side, we believe she has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Don't Overlook the Black Cats
Black cats (and black dogs, too) are often overlooked by potential adopters through absolutely no fault of their own. Sometimes their coloring simply doesn't catch the eye in a shelter setting as easily as lighter-colored animals.

But black cats have plenty of positive lore surrounding them! Across different cultures and throughout history, black cats have been associated with good luck, prosperity, protection, and good fortune. Sailors were known to welcome black cats aboard ships because they were thought to bring luck. In some traditions, having a black cat cross your path is considered a fortunate sign. So perhaps Jupiter isn't just a black kitten. Perhaps she's your lucky star waiting to cross your path.

Jupiter's Story
Jupiter was one of five kittens living in an outdoor cat colony that was brought to the attention of a local grassroots rescue. Sadly, before the kittens could all be safely secured, three of them disappeared. Jupiter was fortunate enough to be safely taken into rescue. The fifth kitten, however, refused to be captured and remains elusive.

That makes Jupiter the lucky one, but we know that being rescued doesn't automatically make everything easy. Jupiter is still learning about this new world she's found herself in. After starting life outdoors, the sights, sounds, smells, and attention of people can feel like a lot. She's a bit insecure right now and she's still learning that humans can be trusted.

Give Jupiter Time to Shine
Jupiter is receiving special attention from our TLC-trained volunteers, who understand that earning the trust of a shy or insecure kitten isn't about rushing. It's about going slowly, respecting boundaries and allowing Jupiter to come out of her shell at her own pace.

She doesn't need someone who expects instant cuddles. She needs someone who understands that trust is something you build one quiet moment, one gentle interaction and one small breakthrough at a time. And when a cautious cat finally decides that you're her person? That bond can be incredibly special.

Could You Be Jupiter's Guardian Angel?
If you think you have what Jupiter needs (patience, compassion, understanding, and the willingness to let her set the pace), we invite you to stop by and spend some time with her. It may take a little while to earn Jupiter's trust. But we believe that this little survivor, who was lucky enough to make it safely out of a dangerous situation, will be well worth the wait.

Maybe Jupiter isn't waiting for just any adopter. Maybe she's waiting for her guardian angel. Could that be you?

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
