Meet Jordi , formerly known as “Sassafras” Please read his backstory in its entirety . <br/> Original Bio <br/>“This 3 yr old “ mush” is looking for a new family to spoil him with love. He doesn't like other cats and dogs, so he MUST be the only pet in his new home. He gets stressed out in high energy environments, so he must go to an adult-only home. He's a big ham that will hop right into your lap and loves to watch the birds through the window. He loves cozy blankets that he can make lots of biscuits in and enjoys munching on treats. He's a smart cat that understands when he's being asked not to do something (like jumping on the counters) and will refrain from doing it again. We believe Sass may have been abused in his previous home, given some occasional acts of aggression and how he reacts to certain hand movements. He prefers to be pet while facing you and doesn't like to be surprised from behind. While he is a sweet and cuddly guy most of the time, he has lashed out at his foster mom unexpectedly and without provocation on a couple occastions. For example, he bit his foster mom out of nowhere while they were watching TV on the couch together and on a separate occasion he lunged at her while she was in bed. Sassafrass needs adopters that understand cat behaviour and ideally have experience working with abused animals. His adopters need to be able and willing to work him with on his insecurities appropriately, by using positive reinforcement.<br/> Then ……..<br/>Sassafras was adopted by a single female during COVID , no other pets , no children . Name changed to Jordi and they were doing well…..until she got a boyfriend who was allergic and Jordi was confined to a room. This upset Jordi and he was quite vocal about it so she decided it wasn’t fair to him and made the choice to surrender. <br/><br/> Current status <br/>Jordi( sassafrass ) is a cat who bonds deeply with his human and acclimates slowly to change. In this case , he’s had to adjust to new caretakers and a new home…. a shelter where he’s caged .Jordi has had difficulties with shelter placement since he prefers humans to the ever present cats he sees everyday day in the shelter . It’s impossible to let him free roam due to the other cats and probable resulting mayhem. This has led to a cat who is shutting down . Jordi receives Zoloft to help calm his aggression. It has helped but he needs out of the shelter environment and into an adult only home where he’s the only pet. Long term foster home can be considered if unsure about adoption .
