Joe's Story

Hi, I'm Joe and I was found outside and brought to HAWS. How lucky am I now that the weather has gotten so cold? I live in the Small Colony Room and my favorite spot is cuddling in a cubby with a soft blanket ... and I have a few of them to pick from! The cat cuddler volunteers are great and are helping me build trust again in people. I am shy now, preferring the comfort of a cubby, rather than jumping out to greet you. I am sweet and enjoy pets on my head (you'll know it from my purrs) ... just go slow with
me when we meet. While I am comfortable, I sure would love a new home to call my own. Could it be yours? Since I was found outside, the vet at HAWS
tested me for FIV ... yes, I have it. But don't worry the risk of transmission to another cat is low if your household is a quiet atmosphere and FIV is not contagious to people or other non-feline animals. FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, is a condition that affects my immune system. I'm told FIV is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds so I probably contracted it during my time outside. All I ask for is a quiet, loving and understanding home where I can live inside and receive regular veterinary
care. FIV cats like me live long and fulfilling lives with proper care and attention. I believe I deserve a chance at happiness just like any other cat. If you think so too, come meet me today.
