Jean & Bessie's Story

Meet the beautiful, purrfect Torti duo, Jean and Bessie.

We estimate that Jean was born in 2019 or a bit earlier and Bessie was born in 2016. We suspect that Bessie is Jean’s momma.

If you are looking for the perfect cat pair, look no further. These two ladies complement each other’s personalities. Bessie is what we call a people’s cat and a cat’s cat. She loves people and she loves cats. She follows her foster human around looking for constant attention. She listens to commands and she appears to want to please people. As soon as her foster human sits or lays down, Bessie is right there to lay or sit on her foster human, purring up a storm. If you want a cat who will smother you with attention, she is your gal.

Jean on the other hand, is a cat’s cat. She prefers the company of cats over humans. She is constantly found laying with Bessie and her feline family members (Clara and Roderick). She does permit her foster human to touch her every now and again, but only for short periods. She is still not sure of humans but she has grown over the last few months.

They are the perfect pair because they will not compete with one another for your attention. Bessie will be the cat who will give you all the snuggles you want. Then, when you are not home or are all snuggled out, Jean will give Bessie what Bessie needs, which is cat snuggles. It is a win-win situation for all of you.

Here is some information about them:

Jean came to CARMA as a pregnant momma. She came with her sisters and Bessie who was not pregnant. Shortly after her arrival, Jean assisted her sister Clara with her babies. Less than two weeks later, Jean gave birth and Clara, Jean and their momma, Bessie, looked after their kittens as a family. There were a lot of kittens with kitten capers.

Jean was a great mamma and all of her babies were adopted.

Jean can be timid at times. As noted, she currently doesn’t seek out human attention, but she does allow her human foster mom to pet her at times. Jean loves spending time with Clara, Roderick, and Bessie. She loves the company of her feline family.

Jean loves to chase the laser light. She has learned that the words “on your mark, get ready, get set, go” means that the light is about to appear and she gets ready for the chase. She still loves to play and she will interact with her foster human during play time. She is quite interested in canned food and cries for it.

Bessie is not shy and is quite forward. She seems to love all people. However, she doesn’t seem to like quick movements.

When Bessie came into CARMA’s care, she had an enlarged uterus that caused her some problems with her bowels. It caused her to have some constipation issues that required medication for a short period of time to ensure that her muscles were stimulated. Now it appears she just needs a certain amount of Restoralax in her canned food once daily to ensure that she has regular bowel movements. She doesn’t seem to notice it in her canned food as she loves her canned food. She eats canned food twice daily to ensure that she has enough moisture in her diet.

Neither of them have been exposed to dogs while in our care and we do not know what their prior experience has been with dogs.

They have had limited experience with children and as Jean is a bit timid and shy, they would do best in a home without children under the age of 12.

Please consider adopting this gorgeous duo together into your home. They are just the sweetest and would make a perfect addition to a loving home. If you can’t adopt them, please share their story and help them find their forever home.

If you are interested in adopting Jean & Bessie, please contact us at frederictoncarma@gmail.com.

As of October 2024 the adoption donations will be:

- Adult cat (over 12 months): $125
- Kitten (12 months and under): $200

They are spayed/neutered and vaccinated at Ca-R-Ma's expense. We do not sell cats or kittens; instead we request that adopters donate to our spay/neuter fund. This amount can change from time to time - please check with our volunteers for the current minimum donation.
