Jack's Story

I still have my shy moments, but I surprise myself in hopping in stranger's laps now!

THE BASICS:

DSH, gray
SENIOR MALE; EST DOB: November 2008
ARRIVAL: March 22, 2019
HISTORY: Jack was surrendered to us after his owner went to an assisted living facility.

At first, jack is incredibly shy. He will stay on top of the cat condos and watch from afar. Once he’s gotten used to you, however, he does a complete 180. Jack will meow at you and come down to the floor to greet you. He is also an unexpected lap cat. Though he will generally defer to the more assertive cats when it comes to hopping on laps, if your lap is open he will eventually make his way over. Jack really values the time he spends with his chosen people. With a little time, patience and focused attention, one of those chosen people could be you.

More about me Nov 2024: JACK! Oh my gosh I love him so much. He is such a good pal, a great companion. I always save him one teeny little piece of my sandwich and he will perch next to me for a whole hour if it’s quiet. He has the most kind eyes and personality. His coloring and markings are so beautiful - he must have been stunning when he was younger.

More about me Nov 2024: Jack is a creature of habit. When I enter the Senior Room, I can count on him being in one of two places: atop his usual condo or out on the Catio. I smile when I greet him with “Hi, Jack” despite the negative connotation of hijack.

He’s about 16 years old. His guardian had to move to an assisted living facility in March 2019, so Jack came to CFC. At first, he was shy but he’s easy to win over with gentle attention and love.

He’s become a guaranteed lap cat but he’s not pushy about it. If someone else claims my lap, Jack patiently waits nearby until it becomes available. He is, however, a bit skittish. Loud voices and noises, humans suddenly appearing and vehicles passing the Catio cause him to panic and take flight. Once peace returns, he’s soon back.

Like many older kitties, Jack may have a touch of arthritis. I notice he often hesitates before jumping onto my lap. He’s such a sweetie, I often just scoop him up and place him there. Then, we can sit quietly, closing our eyes and enjoying our time together.

Summer 2022 Update: Jack can be found resting on the screened catio or on top of one of the condos in the Senior Room. He is still a little bit shy, but once you’ve spent some time with him, he will come to you wanting head scratches and may even hop in your lap. He would probably be best suited to a home with no small children, as he doesn’t like loud noises or quick movements.
