Indy's Story

Indy is a 5-year-old short-haired grey female rescued from a challenging hoarding case in Indiana, PA, this past fall. After the homeowner was hospitalized, leaving numerous cats behind, Starlight Strays Sanctuary worked alongside the Indiana County Humane Society and the family to assess the situation. What we found was heartbreaking-cats living in overcrowded, unsafe conditions. A total of 19 cats were rescued, and Indy is one of five still in our care.

Despite her difficult start, Indy has made significant progress during her time with us. She is still shy and takes time to feel comfortable, but her gentle nature shines through with patience and love. Indy would thrive in a calm, quiet home without children, where someone can give her the time and care she needs to continue healing. She is available for foster or foster-to-adopt, and with the right person, we know Indy will flourish into a loyal and loving companion.

Starlight Stray Sanctuary's adoption process is conducted online via Shelterluv. Applicants, whether for general adoption or a specific cat, apply through our online portal. We strive to review applications within 72 hours, acknowledging the volunteer-driven nature of our organization. Our approach prioritizes thoughtful matching over a first-come-first-served basis. Requirements include stable housing with proof of ownership or landlord consent, age 18 or older, and up-to-date vet records for existing pets. Upon approval, applicants can schedule meet and greets. As a foster-based organization without a facility, the process may take a bit longer, utilizing foster homes and partners for meeting locations.
