Iceman (SPECIAL NEEDS)'s Story

** SPECIAL NEEDS ** Iceman is just under 7 years old orange tabby cat with white accents. He was found hanging around outside with another cat we took in (Maverick). One of the most unique characteristics about Iceman is his huge thumbs! Iceman is what's known as polydactyl, which means he was born with extra toes on all 4 paws!!! Like his name, Iceman has been pretty chilly around the other cats. He seems to have a love/hate relationship with them. We feel he will be best as a solo cat for someone who just wants to give him love and attention and treats!!!!! He wants to be where people are and often wants to sit on a lap if available. He is very food motivated - he will put his paw on your foot while you make him his breakfast and dinner. Iceman can be sassy and will need an experienced cat owner who knows how to read his cues. He does get a little over excited and is known to grab onto feet. He does not usually put his nails out, but an any potential adopter needs to be aware of Iceman's behaviors. We know Iceman will be a great cat to the right person. Iceman was diagnosed with HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) with equivocal left atrial enlargement and reduced left ventricular systolic function). This means that his life expectancy may be shortened, but no one really knows for sure. At his last echocardiogram in August 2024, the vet noted that his myocardial disease was stable (from his prior echocardiogram in February 2024) and that he does not need to have annual echocardiograms - which is amazing news! The recommendation is for Iceman to continue on his 2 medications and that that rechecks of his echo should be done as needed based on clinical progression.<br/><br/>Cats are negative for FelV/FIV, receive age-appropriate vaccines and deworming, are spayed/neutered and are microchipped (free lifetime registration with adoption).<br/><br/>All of our pets go home with a "Go Home Goody Bag" that includes a starter supply of food, treats, toys, and a voucher for a free month of pet insurance from Trupanion.<br/><br/>Location: Bolton, CT<br/>Adoption Fee: Adoption fee waived to an approved adopter

Paws 4 Life Animal Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
ADOPTION PROCESS Our goal is to match the right pet with the right adopter. This means we approach each adoption opportunity in a unique way. One of our adoption specialists will meet (in person, or by phone) with you to learn about your "ideal pet." We take into consideration lifestyle, family dynamic, desired personality traits and an adopter's overall objective in bringing a new pet into their home and make recommendations on which of our pets may be a good fit. ADOPTION SUPPORT We understand that bringing a new pet into your home can be a little stressful. It can take time for a new animal to settle in, and you may have questions about behavior or routine. When we adopt out a pet to a new home, we are available to answer any questions that come up - and to support the new adopter with any special needs they may have related to in-home adjustment. Because our pets are fostered in private homes, we can let you know what's normal, what's not and how to address any initial challenges you may have. FEES Adoption fees vary by animal, and take into consideration age, breed and other characteristics. We strive to keep adoption fees reasonable and many of our animals receive veterinary care at costs that far exceed the adoption fee. Adoption fees are listed on each animal's description. WHAT'S INCLUDED All of our adoptable animals receive age-appropriate vaccines, are spayed/neutered (at age-appropriate time), have a microchip and are tested for species-specific diseases. They also go home with a certificate for one month of FREE pet insurance through Trupanion.
