Hugo's Story
Hugo is dressed for success in a dapper tuxedo and is ready to tell you all about his plans for the future. This observant, young gentleman loves to chirp and “talk” in his foster home, perhaps telling the tales of all he endured before his foster parents rescued him. After months of love and patience, he has made progress in trusting humans and letting down his guard, and he’s ready for a forever home where he can continue to gain confidence and perfect his etiquette.

Hugo is endearing and likes to meet people, after he works through his initial hesitations. He likes to be near humans rather than alone in his foster room; he seems lonely when people aren’t around. Although he doesn’t enjoy being handled, Hugo likes to curl up next to humans. He has kneaded a lap, showing lap-cat potential.

Hugo has become playful. When the humans are working out nearby, Hugo likes to participate by watching and laying on the mat, and he playfully tries to join in by wrestling a hand or foot. Hugo is energetic and is working on his wrestling manners; human arms, hands, feet and legs are in slight peril when Hugo’s enthusiasm overflows. (He has made progress and he can be diverted to a toy.) For this reason, we don’t think he would be suited to a home with young children.

Hugo is curious but respectful of the dog in his foster home. He likes to explore when allowed outside his foster room. He’s interested in the resident cats, but there has been controlled interaction due to the resident cats not accepting him. His foster parents believe that, with slow and proper introductions, Hugo will thrive with a feline friend.

Hugo was found and trapped along Cameron Street on the Greenbelt in mid-July 2025. He was famished and had an injured foot that healed nicely. Food will be a tool for earning Hugo’s trust; he loves canned food and treats. Like many cats who were food-insecure, Hugo will keep eating when food is available. For this reason, he is not free-fed in his foster home.

Patient and kind humans will be a great match for Hugo. With a permanent home, we think he will be a special companion to people and pets.

We estimate Hugo is 1 or 2 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and will be microchipped before adoption.

Questions?
