Houdini's Story

- Bonded with Shylo -

Houdini is a big, handsome 9-year old boy with the shiniest black fur - and an even shinier personality just waiting to blossom in a loving home. He arrived at HART with his best friend, Shylo, after their owner sadly became homeless. Naturally, they came to us scared and unsure of people, but our Shy Angels Socialization Team stepped in to show them that humans can be safe again.

Houdini has made remarkable progress. Once fearful, he now enjoys gentle affection and will happily roll over for soft belly rubs. While he may still get spooked by loud noises or unfamiliar situations, a calm approach and a little patience help him quickly remember that he's safe and loved.

He gets along wonderfully with his feline roommates and is especially friendly with other cats. Houdini and Shylo are deeply bonded - leaning on each other for comfort and confidence - so they must be adopted together.

Houdini does have a few medical needs, but none of them diminish his sweetness or his quality of life. He is diabetic and currently managed with a low-carb diet to support both his diabetes and weight loss journey. He may require insulin in the future, but for now he is stable and doing well. Houdini also has hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) and a small amount of fluid in his chest. His condition is monitored by a cardiologist, and he will need an adopter who can continue this care. Even with these needs, Houdini is truly thriving.

This special pair would do best in a quiet home without children or dogs. As expected, they get scared in new situations and will need an adopter who can offer patience, consistency, and gentle understanding to help them thrive.

If you're looking for two loving companions who have overcome so much and are ready to flourish in a stable, caring, and peaceful home, Houdini and Shylo may be the perfect match. They're ready to bring warmth, gratitude, and quiet joy to the person who opens their heart to them.

To meet Houdini and Shylo, please fill out an adoption application. Our Shy Angels team coordinator will reach out to schedule a visit.

Go to our website, www.hartofme.org, to submit your online application today!

***FKA = Formerly Known As
