Hedwig the Owl's Story

Hedwig the Owl is a 7-8 year old beauty who is just now learning to love life. When she was a kitten, she was "gifted" to a woman who made it clear from the beginning that she didn't want her. What followed for Hedwig was a life of neglect and loneliness. When her owner went into hospice and she found her way to our rescue, she was a sad and somewhat timid cat who flinched when pet. She had a very difficult time eating, often choosing not to eat so that she wouldn't get sick. Her eyes were dull and half closed and she appeared to have some weakness in her hind legs.
This darling girl definitely benefitted from some vet care and she slowly began to blossom in her foster home, learning that some human can be friends. It took a while for her to come around, but soon her eyes became wide and bright, she learned to love chin scratches and she began to follow her foster mom EVERYWHERE. Even though she's come out of her shell in so many ways, she hasn't come around to enjoying the company of other cats, so it's time for this lovebug to find her very own loving person to continue showing her just how wonderful life with the right person can be.
It turns out that Hedwig's hind end weakness is due to some neglected arthritis and although she gets around just fine, petting her is most effective up near her head so that she doesn't tip over. She has a very thick coat and definitely benefits from daily brushing as she is prone to hairballs from overgrooming (an anxiety response). She has discovered the simple joy of sitting in a window to watch the world go by. She's nervous about jumping up on the furniture still and tends to like to sleep in a closet, but as soon as she hears her person moving around, she's immediately following, hoping for a scratch or a bit of conversation. She especially loves to keep you company in the bathroom, running ahead of you and taking up position on the sink where she gently nudges you with her head and turns on the purrs.
