Halfstache's Story

Meet Halfstache!

Halfstache is a handsome and dapper gentleman who is approximately 5-6 years old. As a domestic short haired cat with a greyish-blue tuxedo coat, he is always dressed to impress. Halfstache has a distinctive white facial patch, which led to his name.

Halfstache lived an unknown life prior to being in ACP care, but his foster mom believes he was either abandoned or experienced some form of trauma. His eyes and disposition prior to neutering showed promise and potential for socialization – but with fear of allowing a human into his life again.

The first two weeks inside was a challenge that required consistent positive reinforcement, a soft voice, and an overwhelming amount of treats. The turning points happened when Halfstache finally ate in front of his foster mom, and started purring during paintbrush and feather training. After three weeks, he allowed pets, started meowing, and was finally relaxing in a cat bed! After a month, Halfstache was begging for body rubs and head-butts! He’s had an unbelievable transformation and is still improving each day!

He loves playing with one of the resident cats and is often lounging in the window sunlight throughout the day. His favorite toys are his hunting mouse that makes noises, as well as his feathered bell wand. He loves meowing and having conversations with his foster mom, as well as eating.

Halfstache reflexively crouches away and hides when he is unsure or scared. This also sometimes happens when he is overstimulated. He does not like the vacuum, Real Housewives of OC, and other loud noises.

The person(s) who adopt Halfstache should understand his limitations, and how he is relearning how to “cat” and socialize indoors. He will need a smaller space (such as a bathroom, leading up to a living area) to acclimate prior to free-ranging inside a home. If other animals are in the home, he will need a slow and supervised introduction period.

Halfstache is FIV positive. With regular vet checkups and an indoor-only life, FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives. Current research shows that peaceful co-habitation of FIV+ and FIV- cats is not detrimental to the cats' long term health. If other resident cats are present, potential adopters should consult their veterinarian for best practices with FIV+ cats.

What Halfstache is looking for in a home:

- Halfstache is new to indoor life with humans, so he needs a kind and patient guide to help him continue adjusting. Loud noises, fast movements, and strangers make him nervous.
- Halfstache can get nervous, so he needs a kind and patient guide to help him feel comfortable with new experiences.
- Halfstache needs extra time and TLC to build trust.
- Halfstache feels at ease in a quiet and calm environment.
- Halfstache needs to live indoors only.
- Halfstache has a positive history with other cats and would like having a feline friend close to his age.
- Halfstache has no known history with dogs.
- Halfstache has no known history with children.

All Alley Cat Project’s cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption.

Thank you for your interest in adopting Halfstache!
