Grover's Story
Hello, my name is Grover! I am an adult cat with quite the backstory who is looking for the purrfect home to make my happily ever after and care for me all the rest of my days! Despite having a medically enlarged heart, I am still one of the best cats you’ll ever meet. In fact, don’t tell the other cats, but I became one of Pet Angel’s Director’s favorite cats at the rescue because she says I’m just THAT great. She can’t adopt any more kitties, so I’m on the hunt to find a family that will love me just as much as Abby does (and maybe even send her updates and pictures after I’m adopted!).

Back in May of 2025, on the first 80 degree day in Frankenmuth, somebody dumped my mommy, me, and my 5 brothers outside Pet Angel. Our mommy cat was left inside a tiny cage, and next to the cage they left a fully closed Rubbermaid tote with all 6 of us babies trapped inside — without air holes. Thankfully, the volunteers found us in time and brought us to safety. Pet Angel named our mommy Sesame, and all of us kittens were named after Sesame Street characters. I’m Grover, and my brothers were Elmo, Rocco, Bert, Ernie, and Snuffy.

Since then, I’ve grown into a BIG personality in a tuxedo cat body. I am seriously one of the funniest, sweetest, most outgoing cats you will ever meet. I adore attention and absolutely crave human interaction. I love to be held like a baby, I purr constantly, and I will follow you around the house begging for attention and affection. I am extremely playful, adventurous, curious, and social. I love toys — especially pom pom balls and spring toys — and I fully expect my future family to spoil me with them!

Now, there is one thing about me you should know… I am not your average cat. I am an ALPHA cat through and through. I absolutely need a home with other cats because I thrive having feline companions and playmates, but the other cats in the home need to be more submissive and easygoing. I like to be the boss, and I will absolutely take charge of the household dynamics. Confident or dominant cats likely would not be a good fit for me.

I have not officially been tested one-on-one with dogs, but based on my bold personality, Pet Angel believes I would likely do just fine with the RIGHT dog. However, because I’m such a confident alpha cat, I need a dog with a very low prey drive who would never hurt a cat — even if I decide to give them a little attitude or put them in their place. Slow introductions would still be important, of course!

I also need a home with older children only. While I absolutely love attention and affection, I have a very unique habit… I SCALE PEOPLE. Seriously. If I want to be in your arms or on your shoulders, I will climb your legs, torso, or even your back to get there. Because of this, I would not do well in a home with babies, toddlers, or very young children who could become frightened or accidentally hurt by my climbing antics. Older kids or teenagers who understand cats and can safely handle my very enthusiastic affection would be ideal for me!

I do also have a medical condition that my future family needs to understand. In July of 2025, one of my brothers, Snuffy, suddenly passed away. After additional testing and heart ultrasounds, Pet Angel learned that my mommy Sesame and all of her biological kittens had enlarged hearts. Since then, 3 of my biological brothers have gone on to develop HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), which means I am considered at high risk for developing HCM in the future as well.

At this time, I do NOT currently have HCM, but I do have an enlarged heart and will need lifelong monitoring. My future family will need to commit to routine veterinary care and heart checkups every 6 months to monitor my condition and make sure my heart continues functioning properly. If changes are ever detected, additional ultrasounds or medication may become necessary in the future. Right now, though, I do not require medication — just careful monitoring and a family willing to stay proactive about my health.

Please don’t let my enlarged heart scare you away. The truth is, many cats can have hidden heart conditions that are never discovered until it’s too late. Pet Angel chose to do extensive testing before placing me up for adoption so my future family would fully understand my needs and be prepared to give me the best care possible. My heart may be enlarged, but that just means I have even more love to give.

I am fixed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and negative for FIV/FELV. I am looking for a strictly indoor-only home within the state of Michigan. Because of my heart condition, I am not a cat who should travel unnecessarily outside of veterinary care.

What I really need is someone who understands that I’m a little extra in every possible way — extra affectionate, extra outgoing, extra dramatic, extra playful, and extra lovable. I promise that if you give me a chance, I will become one of the most unforgettable cats you will ever meet.

I am located at Pet Angel Adoption in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
