Grover's Story
Hello, my name is Grover! I am a kitten with quite the backstory who is looking for the purrfect home to make my happily ever after and will care for me all the rest of my days! Despite having a medically enlarged heart, I am the bestest cat you’ll ever meet! Infact, don’t tell the other cats, but I became one of Pet Angel’s Directors favorite cats at the rescue because she says I’m just THAT great. She can’t adopt any more kitties, so I’m on the hunt to find a family that will love me just as much as Abby does (and also will send her pictures of me after I’m adopted!)

In May of 2025, on the first 80 degree day in Frankenmuth, somebody dumped my mommy, me and my 5 brothers outside Pet Angel. Our mommy cat was left inside a teeny, tiny cage and next to the cage, they left a rubber maid tote fully closed with me and my 5 brothers inside of it. We were just 6-week old, and the tote didn’t even have air holes in it!!! When the volunteers showed up for the evening shift, they found us, and quickly brought us inside to safety. Pet Angel named our mommy Sesame, and me and my brothers were all named after Sesame Street Characters (I’m Grover, but my brothers names are Elmo, Rocco, Bert, Ernie & Snuffy!) We went off to foster care, where we were safe and sound while our mommy weaned raised and weaned us, and we came back to Pet Angel when we were big enough to be without 24 hour care.

I am seriously one of the cutest, sweetest, and most fun kitties you will ever meet! I am the purrfect tuxedo, with one black toe on my white feet and the cutest white wiskers that are prominent against my black face. I adore attention, and climb right in your lap the second it’s available to me! I love to follow humans around and just beg for attention. I love to be held, specifically like a baby, and purr soooo loud the entire time I’m around you! I love to play with toys- specifically pom pom balls and spring toys- and I PRAY my family will buy me some when they take me home! I am sweet, playful, adventurous, outgoing, affectionate, and just the bestest cat you will EVER meet.

I do have a small health condition, and I am hoping that this does not scare away any potential owners, but helps me find the best family who will give me all the care I may need in my life. In the end of July 2025, one of my brothers, Snuffy, suddenly passed away. One day he was sick, so Pet Angel took him immediately into the vet, and the next day he was gone. It happened so fast, and all of the staff and volunteers at Pet Angel were absolutely devastated. At first, The vet thought Snuffy’s symptoms looked like pneumonia. This prompted Pet Angel to take my brothers and I into the vet to be checked out. Upon further investigation our vet discovered that our brother didn’t pass from Pneumonia, and that my mommy Sesame, along with all 5 of her biological kittens (me included) have enlarged hearts. At this point, the vet was concerned about a heart condition called HCM. In September of 2025, my mom Sesame, myself, and all of my brothers I went into the vet to get ultrasounds done of our hearts to check to see if we had HCM. My test revealed two things: I do not currently have HCM, but I do have an enlarged heart.

So, what does this mean? This means I am at risk for developing HCM later in my life. My future family will need to take me to the vet every 6 months to have the vet check my heart and ensure its still functioning properly. Upon adoption, after I adjust to your home, it is recommended you bring me to your vet so they can see how my heart is functioning currently (which is my ‘normal’ state) and then I will need to visit the vet every 6 months after that for the rest of my life. If for some reason my heart seems different at one of these vet checks, my family would need to have the vet do a second heart ultrasound to see if I have developed HCM. In the case that I do develop HCM, I would need to go on HCM medication. However, as of right now, this is not something I need, as I do not currently have HCM. The only requirement I need right now is a vet check up every 6 months. My future family just needs to understand that in the future, I may need some additional medical attention, I am at risk for developing HCM in the future, and that I do have an enlarged heart.

I understand that an enlarged heart and potential heart condition later down the road may be reason potential adopters don’t consider me. However, to be fair, any cat you adopt could have a heart condition that goes undetected prior to you adopting them. Pet Angel has taken extra steps by fundraising the money to do the heart tests for me prior to posting me up for adoption to ensure that you- my hopeful future owners- are aware of this condition so you can give me the care I require to give me a long lasting, healthy life. In fact, they held off putting us up for adoption to do all of these medical tests to help set us and our future families up for success, so my future family knows exactly how to care for me. Please don’t let my enlarged heart be a factor in why you don’t consider me, but instead know that my enlarged heart just means I have more of a heart to love you with.

I am fixed, microchipped, up to date on all my shots, and am negative for FIV/FELV. I am looking for a strictly-indoor-only home where I will be able to live with other cats, as I would not do well as a single cat- I need playmates!!! I have not been tested one-on-one with a dog, but I am so outgoing and affectionate that Pet Angel thinks that with a slow and proper introduction, I would get along with a dog that will not hurt me! I also would do great with children of all ages, as long as they will be gentle with me! I need a strictly indoor only home, and due to my heart condition I am not a cat who should travel, so I’m hoping to find a family that will keep me home, besides when I go to the vet. I really hope to find a family who won’t be afraid of my enlarged heart or potential future development of HCM, because I PROMISE, I am worth the extra vet visits. I am located at Pet Angel Adoption in Frankenmuth, Michigan and am looking for a home within the state of Michigan. If you would like to meet me and see if we’re the purrfect match, please submit an application online at https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat
