Meet Greta & Ava
Some ferals unfortunately endure hardship from their first hours and beyond, dealing with upper respiratory and eye infections, fleas and other parasites, and even dangers from other territorial cats. Humans who don’t understand that these cats didn’t ask for this life pose another risk, and may not show kindness to an outdoor cat dealing with circumstances they can’t control, including the ability to be spayed or neutered to prevent cat overpopulation. By the time a caring soul finds them, the socialization window for feral cats is still possible, but can be tougher.
While the road may be rockier, the achievement is worth it – the love of a formerly feral cat, won over with patience and love from their human(s).
Greta and Ava are two such older kittens. Found after what would’ve been ideal timing to get them used to cushy indoor life, they're still learning what it means to be loved and pampered, beginning with their time in foster with Candy.
They enjoy gentle pets, and interacting with people: a huge feat after living outdoors without human contact for so long. Greta purrs contentedly with back scratches and will nudge your hand for more. Ava especially loves treats and wand toys. Both enjoy the companionship of other cats.
We suspect the girls will continue to come out of their shells with a patient adopter, one who understands they'll need time to acclimate and grow into what all cats should be: spoiled housecats.
Many of our rescuers and volunteers have helped feral cats, and know there is something quite special about earning the trust and affection of a former feral. Let’s give Greta and Ava that chance, too.
Sisters Greta and Ava are approximately one year old and are FELV/FIV negative, up-to-date on vaccines, litter, trained spayed, and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Greta and/or Ava contact us through email at cats@catsinbloom.org, by Facebook message, or call 570-209-9113.
