Grape's Story
Grape (2 years old) was rescued from a fruit warehouse in Brooklyn along with 22 other cats (!!), including her three young kittens, who have all since found loving homes. You might notice Grape’s little ear tip — that’s a universal sign among rescuers that she’s been spayed. Indoor cats typically don’t have ear tips, since it’s mainly used to identify outdoor cats who’ve already been fixed.

At first, Grape wasn’t used to people. With limited caretakers available to help socialize her, the plan was to have her spayed and returned to the warehouse. But Grape had other ideas. While recovering from her surgery, she started leaning into pets and giving her caretakers gentle headbutts — her way of saying she was ready for a different kind of life. She clearly decided that living outside in the cold, without steady food or shelter, was no longer for her.

In just a few months, Grape transformed from a scrawny, wary little cat into a confident, playful, healthy girl. Now she greets her caretaker at the door after work, chirps excitedly when she sees her favorite snack (dry food!) being poured into her bowl, and loves exploring new toys. She’s even started curling up to sleep in her caretaker’s bed — a sure sign of how far she’s come and how much she enjoys feeling safe and loved.

Grape has also learned how to set her boundaries — she appreciates a slow, respectful approach and a human who can give her the patience and understanding she deserves. Once she feels secure, her affectionate and silly personality truly shines. She especially loves chin and head scratches, and when she’s really happy, she’ll raise her little butt up asking for more pets!

Grape gets along well with other cats (if you’re looking for a pair, we can help with a good match!) but she’d also be perfectly happy as a solo kitty. We haven’t seen her around dogs or children yet.

If you’d like to be part of Grape’s happy ending and welcome her into your family, please fill out an application here: https://www.greenpointcats.org/adoption-application
