Gracie's Story

we are trying deperately to save this wonderful kitty who is at Delmar Animal Hospital where my daughter works part-time. They will be euthanizing her within the next fewdays as they have not been able to find a home for her and have
been holding her for quite awhile. Interested individuals should call 439-9361 Monday through Friday 9 - 5 p.m. to inquire
about her.

Here is Katy's description
Gracie is so, so, so sweet!

I've never really wanted a cat but oh my gosh. If there was anypossible way we could keep her, I would've brought her home weeks ago. I love this kitty so much (I call her my "baby girl").
>
She is by far one of the sweetest kitties I have ever met, and myfavorite out of all the cats I've seen at the animal hospital. Eventhe kittens...she is just too cute!
> Her owner brought her into the hospital because she was having
accidents in the house. She stayed at the hospital for the weekendand tested positive for a UTI (which has been treated), but herowner's husband is dying of cancer and she decided that a sick cat wastoo much, so she told them to put her down. Dr. O'Loughlin got her tosurrender her to the hospital instead so they could find her a newhome, but they have had hardly any interest in her because of her age.
>
She is 10 years old, healthy, spayed, and up to date on shots. She isNOT declawed, but she has always been an indoor kitty and does notseem to use her claws except to cleverly rearrange her bedding (nomatter how many times I straighten her blankets, they are always messywhen I come back!) and to pull her mouse toys toward her. And she isery content to stay inside - she doesn't ever try to slip out thedoors at the hospital, despite many, many opportunities (people arealways walking in and out). She is very mellow, but will play ifinvited - she especially likes chasing lasers. As long as she doesn'thave to move more than a foot at a time! ...Gracie is pretty pudgy, but she's on a diet and has lost some weight since she's been at thehospital. She weighs maybe 16 or 17 lbs right now.
>
She is litter-trained and has not had any accidents at the hospital.(She has free roam of the kennel during the day.) Her UTI treatmenthas been completed and Dr. O thinks she should be totally OK withusing the litter box in a home at this point.
>
She does not seem to like other cats very much (she gives most of themthat "I hate you all" look), but she has seen dogs at the hospital andwould probably be OK as long as they respect her "personal bubble."She can be timid with strangers and will return to her "safe area" when nervous, but she is not fear aggressive. At the hospital, shehas claimed the bathroom closet as her own and spends most of her timethere. Visitors to her closet are very welcome, however, and she will come out if she thinks she has your "undivided attention." She isvery hard to take pictures of because she gets excited once sherealizes you're watching her! I had to take the one below from behinda baby gate because she kept coming too close.
> Also, she purrs a LOT. She's a little purring machine. She was very
pleased to see me today - Kathy (the vet tech) didn't think she wouldremember me since I've been gone 2 weeks, but she was in the closetwhen I got there, and she started purring as soon as I came over! Onthe weekends, she comes waddling up to greet me, and rubs herself against my legs when I come in. She loves attention and she's a LICKER! She's the only cat I've seen give kisses (well, kiss on thehand). She wouldn't stop licking me today, it was very cute.

She has been at the hospital since early March, and one of the
vets wanted her gone by today. I can't even think about her being put down, I'mway too attached to her. She's just such a sweetheart.
>
I think she's really pretty. Admittedly, she would be prettier if she lost 5-8 lbs, but she's a dilute tortoiseshell, so her coloring is gorgeous, and she's beautiful on the inside!
> For now, she's still at Delmar Animal Hospital, their number is> 439-9361 and they're on Delaware Ave (coming from the high school, they're just past the YMCA, right next to it) if you're interested in meeting her.
>
> Katy Harmon
>

_he has been neutered, received all age appropriate shots, been feline leukemia tested (-) and feline HIV tested (-), and of course, the ever important status of "litter-trained”

Gracie would love to find a new home and begin to settle in to forever with a new family.
