Grace's Story

Grace
Female DSH dilute torti tabby
Approximate age: Ancient (15+)

Grace is the funniest little crusty old girl that will warm your heart. She was brought into a shelter in Flint with another cat as a 'stray'. We are skeptical of this as Grace is old as dirt and 98% blind (and the other cat is 3-legged). We don't think Grace was wandering the streets of Flint by herself, but who knows, she is a tough little cookie. This unfortunately means that we don't know anything about her history or the life she has lived. However, we do know that this girl LOVES wet food, sleeping in baskets, lounging in front of heat vents, and that she is full of surprises.

Her paperwork from the shelter said she was already spayed although they didn't list why they though this. We very much doubted this when after a month she went into what really looked like heat and started spraying (which she no longer does or will do!). We took her to the vet and they did not find evidence of a spay scar or tattoo. A cat in heat is pretty distinctive, so we were all pretty sure this is what was going on. Abdominal surgery is less than ideal in an old lady like Grace but we were sure glad that we did surgery. Not only was she intact, SHE HAD A PYOMETRA. Pyometras are life-threatening uterine infections meaning that her uterus was filled with infection/pus. Without surgery, this would have caused hrr to become septic and would bave been fatal for her. In true cat fashion, Grace handled anesthesia perfectly (she actually fought the anesthesia and didn't want to go to sleep) and recovered better than we could have wished for.

We were originally skeptical if Grace would be able to be adopted, but with how much spunk and will to live and fight that she's shown, we figured she deserves a chance to find a home to live out the rest of her life with vs staying in foster. So, we present to you this absolutely adorable mostly blind, creeky, head-tilted, food crazy cat named Grace.

Current location: In foster

Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption. Grace has had full bloodwork and a urinalysis which came back with no concerns.

If you are interested in adopting, fill out an application online at www.figandfriendspetrescue.org/adopt

Fig and Friends Pet Rescue's Adoption Policy
~We do not adopt to homes with animals who are not spayed or neutered unless there is a valid reason such as vet recommendation. ~We do check references including landlord if you rent and your vet both past and present. ~We do not adopt to homes that plan on declawing the cat we have adopted out to you or that plan on letting a cat outside (unless on a leash and harness under owner's continued observation). ~If we see something on your application that we are concerned about, we will always try and have a conversation with you to find out the why. We understand you might have declawed a cat in the past or had to rehome an animal. It can happen to anyone. We like to dig deeper and won't deny someone just based on surface information.
