This is usually caused by the feline herpes simplex virus and is very common in rescued cats and kittens. We helped manage this kitty cold by adding a common amino acid supplement, lysine, to wet food daily. A cat may have a flare-up of symptoms in future due to stress, such as a change of environment such as an adoption centre and/or new home. A document explaining this in more detail will be included with the health record card given at time of adoption.
• Grace was noted as having mild gingivitis, which can often be corrected and prevented from progressing by using a dental care kibble. Some of this kibble will be provided to the adopter to use as a treat.
A home oral hygiene regimen such as daily tooth brushing, oral gel, water additive, dental powders added to wet food, or dental treats can also reduce bacteria and plaque buildup and are recommended to help support good oral health. Your vet can advise on the best products to help with dental care.
• Vaccinated for FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
• Microchipped
• Deflead and dewormed
• Six weeks of pet insurance
• Health record card
• Specific diagnostic testing may also have been done as each cat's health may warrant while in CatNap's care.
