Gizmo's Story

Meet Gizmo: The sweet Mama with the midnight coat & perfectly silly underbite

Gizmo is a loving mama with a story of survival and transformation. We rescued her from an apartment complex in downtown San Jose, where she was doing her very best to care for her two kittens while extremely malnourished. She poured every bit of energy into nursing them — so much that her glossy black fur turned brown from nutritional depletion, and her small body was exhausted from motherhood.

One special thing about Gizmo is her little underbite. At first glance it can make her look serious or grumpy, but don’t be fooled, it’s just her unique expression! It’s likely a result of the rough start she had while trying to survive outdoors, but it doesn’t cause her pain or affect her quality of life. If anything, it’s part of what makes her charm unforgettable. She is soft-hearted, gentle, and absolutely not angry — her face just has resting misunderstood vibes.

With time, good food, and care, Gizmo has blossomed. Her coat is returning to its gorgeous silky black, medium-to-long and plush like a tiny panther. Her golden eyes are warm and intelligent, and there’s a calm elegance to the way she observes the room before settling in closer to the people who show her love.

Originally trapped for TNR, we quickly realized Gizmo wasn’t meant for outdoor life. She responds beautifully to affection, enjoys gentle engagement, and has a nurturing energy that fills a home with peace. She has given so much — now she finally deserves tenderness back.

Gizmo would love a patient, loving home where she can continue to heal, be brushed, be spoken to softly, and be adored for the resilient sweetheart she is. Her story is one of transformation, and she’s ready for her next chapter — one filled with safety, warmth, and love.

If you’re searching for a cat who is gentle, soulful, and just a little quirky in the cutest way, Gizmo might be your perfect match.
