Gizmo's Story
Gizmo comes to us from outside after being tossed out by his previous owners. He is approximately 4 years old. He is our longest resident by far (1 year); due to his trauma suffered at the hands of humans, it took nearly 8 months for him to begin to truly trust us. He is a large boy at a whopping 18 pounds. He has occasional bouts of playfulness, but most of the time he can be found napping in a cat tree or on the couch. He is an absolute snuggle bug and will lay next to you all day getting pets if you let him. He gets along with other cats in the rescue and tolerates the resident dog. He would be happy to live with another pet, but truthfully, he's happiest just having loving humans nearby. Gizmo came to us with his name, so we would prefer his potential adopter not change it, since he does know his name. His potential adopter also needs to be very patient with him as the transition to a new home could potentially make him fearful for a short time. We deem Gizmo as "special needs" for two reasons. He struggles to groom himself in certain areas due to his size, so his new home must be willing to brush his back or cut out any mats he may develop in his long hair. Also, Gizmo's right eye occasionally has a flair up where it becomes red and inflamed, so the potential adopter may need to occasionally treat his eye with Terramycin. Overall, Gizmo, affectionately called "Gizzard," is an extremely loving and gentle boy. He is looking for a nice, quiet home with gentle humans to give him all the love in the world.
