Gidget's Story

Hi, I'm Gidget! Visitors to Paws know me as for several years I would guard the outside of the perimeter of the shelter. This past winter was very cold, so I decided I was ready to guard the inside of the shelter, where it's warm!! I'm known for my sweet nature and curiosity. I love exploring every nook of my temporary home and making friends. I'm quite brave too; nothing much fazes me! My mom was a bit of a wanderer, but I've learned the joys of a warm, safe space. I enjoy the company of kind humans and am always ready for a new adventure. If you're looking for a friendly and courageous companion, I'm your cat! Let's discover the joys of home together.

Note from Paws Humans: Cleo was a feral cat who would visit our shelter regularly to be fed. We believe that Gidget was in Cleo's last litter before we finally were able to trap and spay her. Gidget was feral initially, but she really warmed up to staff and regular volunteers, and by 2025 she was letting even first-time visitors pet her as well. We tried to bring her into the shelter last year, but she kind of freaked out. However, during the extreme cold spell we had in early 2026 she disappeared for six days. When she came back, we brought her into the isolation room in our clinic, and she was just fine. We left her in quarantine longer than normal so she could adjust to being an indoor cat before we introduced her to a bunch of strange roommates. She is now in the Kool Katz room and is doing great! To apply to adopt any of our cats or kittens, please visit our website and fill out our on-line application at https://www.pawsurbana.org/apply-to-adopt.

We do not do same-day adoptions, as we have an adoption application which must be completed and verified. We also require that all of the cats and kittens adopted from us must be kept exclusively indoors.
