George's Story
Hi. My name is George.
I’m a one-year-old tuxedo boy with green eyes that tell a story I never expected to survive.

In late December , my life almost ended.

I was hit by a car. I was taken to an emergency vet clinic, and when they looked at my injuries, things didn’t look good. My mouth was badly damaged — my gums were torn away from the bone. I was in pain. I was scared. And it seemed like no one could help me. There’s even a picture of me with my tube in after the surgery

Euthanasia was the most likely outcome.

But this shelter didn’t give up on me.

When no other shelters were able to step in, they said yes. They chose to fight for my life when I couldn’t fight for myself. I had surgery. It hurt. Healing hasn’t been easy. But I’m here. I survived. And I’m healing now — inside and out.

Today, I’m living in foster care, and for the first time in a long time, I feel safe.

I have space to roam freely, sniff everything, and climb all the things I probably shouldn’t. I even slide down the footboard of the bed like a total goof (there’s video proof — lololol). I jump onto my foster mama’s bed for snuggles, because comfort is something I never take for granted anymore.

As I’ve started feeling better, my personality is coming back.
I’m curious. I play with toys. I love to eat — Temptations are my absolute weakness. I know my name and come when I’m called. I like being part of a home, not just living in one.

I still have a few follow-up medical appointments, but I’m doing really well. I’m scheduled to be neutered and vaccinated on February 4, and applications are already being accepted so I can have a home lined up — a real forever home. One where I never have to wonder if I’ll be safe again.

I get along well with calm, friendly cats, and I’m great with kids — you can even see a photo of me on Petfinder snuggling with my foster mama’s granddaughter. Dogs, though… I’m not so sure. When I met one, I hissed and my tail got very puffy, so a dog-free home might be best for me.

I’m handsome. I know it.
But what I hope you see when you look at me isn’t just my tuxedo coat or my big green eyes — it’s how much I’ve been through, and how much love I still have to give.

All I dream of now is a safe, quiet, loving forever home.

One where I’ll never be disposable.

One where I’ll be cherished.
I didn’t give up.

They didn’t give up on me.

Will you be the one who gives me my happy ending?

If interested please submit an adoption application found on our website, thepetrefuge.org that is always the first step as only approved adoption applicants can make an appointment to meet our cats- we do not allow walk ins. If you have more questions or want to check on the status of your application, please call 401-294-1115 Thank you
