Gene and Gertie's Story
Meet Gene and Gertie, a bonded brother and sister. They are approximately 2 years old.

Gene is a striking large and lean domestic shorthair, bicolor white and grey with tabby markings in the grey. He has a pink nose and multi-colored toe beans. He will knock you off your feet, figuratively (very attractive) and literally. He is an avid leg rubber regardless of what you are doing and especially when hungry. He loves feeding and treat time and playing with people, his sister, and other cats. He is a big sweetie and loves to meet other cats. He is a great foster uncle. He does not like being picked-up, but tolerates it a bit. He prefers legs; rubbing, and laying on, and laying between.

Gertie is a gorgeous domestic shorthair diluted tabico who is oh so soft. She is shyer than her brother and is more comfortable coming to you for pets, than you coming to her. She will take some time to warm up, but treats, play, and patience will bring Flirty Gertie out, and she is a joy to see. Gertie loves an old-man cat and was able to join in with the other household cats, but has not been too impressed with recent fosters. She generally communicates her needs clearly to other cats though and does not start any fights. Gertie is not very handleable, and freaks at being picked up. She loves a high perch for sleeping and she loves playing with teaser toys.

Together, they make a truly striking pair of cats. They were trapped after the preferred socialization window so took some time to get used to indoor life with people. Lots of patience and consistency will pay off tenfold for these two.

What Gene and Gertie are looking for in a home:

- They want to stay together forever and must be adopted as a pair.
- They can get nervous, especially Gertie, so they need a kind and patient guide to help them feel comfortable with new experiences.
- They’ll need extra time and TLC to build trust
- They have lots of energy and will benefit from plenty of active play time.
- They feel at ease in a quiet and calm environment.
- They need to live indoors only.
- They have a positive history with other cats and may like having a feline friend close to their age.
- They have a positive history with dogs.
- They have limited history with children.

All Alley Cat Project’s cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. Consistent with Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines, ACP follows current shelter medicine practices and does not routinely test every healthy, low-risk cat for FIV and FeLV.

Alley Cat Project adoption fees are:

- $200 per cat or kitten
- $350 for pair of cats or kittens
- $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old)
- Flexible reduced fees for a cat with a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing care
- Adjustable fee upon request for adopters who are low income, and seniors, disabled, or others with fixed incomes.
- Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts

Thank you for your interest in Gene and Gertie! If your household fits the above criteria, you can apply to adopt them by filling out this questionnaire: bit.ly/ACPAdoptionForm

Only applicants who complete the questionnaire will be considered. Please do not submit an inquiry through Petfinder, as it will not replace the questionnaire. Many of our cats receive numerous applications, and we thank you for your patience while we review applications and find the best match.

Please do not follow up on your application by phone or email as this will not expedite a response. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we appreciate your understanding.
