Gecko's Story

On July 23, 2026 a stray kitten was brought to Northwood.

He is a black male domestic short hair, estimated to be about 8 weeks of age, estimated DOB 5-23-26.

He had severe eye infections and had abrasions of his left upper lip. One theory is he had fallen out of a truck engine.

He had been found in the loading dock at Dollar General Store in Chattahoochee (Gadsden Co).

We named him Gecko.

Gecko became seriously ill after being dropped, blood sugar dropped dangerously low and he became neurologic. IV catheter was placed and he was put on IV fluids with dextrose. He also had trouble keeping his body temperature up at one point, going from fever to temperature too low. But he responded well to aggressive treatment.

He had some other illnesses we had to manage (treatment for coccidia, treatment for a type of tapeworms called Spirometra, treatment for ringworm, treatment for upper respiratory tract infection). Ironically, Spirometra is a type of tapeworms they get from eating lizards (like Geckos). Gecko had finally gotten past his rough start in life.

He is negative for FeLV/FIV, has been neutered and microchipped and has completed his kitten vaccines.

Now he is ready for his forever home.

Name: Gecko
Gender: Male/Neutered
Birthday: 5/23/26
Current Location: Northwood Animal Hospital
Minimum Adoption Donation: $100
