Freyja available through our Foster to Adopt Program's Story

Freyja is our goddess of love, strength and second chances. Some cats have a quiet kind of courage. It's the kind that carries them through loss, uncertainty and change, yet somehow they still radiate love. Freyja is one of those extraordinary souls.

Named after the Norse goddess of love, beauty and strength, our Freyja has lived up to her name in every possible way. Her story hasn't been simple, but her heart has remained steady and kind.

Freyja first came to us in July 2023 when she was just a year old and abandoned in a cardboard box with her tiny kittens. Even in fear and confusion, she cared for her babies with endless tenderness. That's simply who she is. She is patient, gentle and incredibly resilient.

Once her kittens were safe, Freyja moved into a loving foster home where she could finally rest and heal. There, she was treated for a urinary tract issue and began a simple, affordable pain medication to help her stay comfortable because stress can sometimes cause flare-ups. In that calm, caring space, her sweet spirit truly began to shine.

In January 2024, we celebrated as Freyja found what we believed to be her forever home. But life does not always go as planned and in May 2025, through no fault of her own, she was returned to us. Once readmitted to the shelter, we noticed that she had been declawed while away. And once again, she was facing life at the shelter.

Because Freyja is sensitive to stress, she truly thrives as the only pet in her home. She needs a calm home without other cats or dogs. But believe us, she'll give you more love than you ever imagined one cat could.

Freyja does have a health waiver on her file due to her special diet and inexpensive pain management medication, but please don't let that health waiver deter you. Our adoption consultant will guide you through everything, so you feel confident bringing her home.

Now it's November and Freyja is still waiting patiently, lovingly and faithfully. We're more than willing to provide the care she needs for as long as it takes, but we know the shelter isn't where she's meant to spend her days. It's hard seeing her week after week, quietly sitting in her kennel, waiting for someone to finally see her for who she is.

Freyja isn't just any cat.
She's a soul who's been let down and still chooses to love.
She's a cat who's faced uncertainty and still hopes for connection.
She's waiting for the one person who will finally say, "I choose you."

We truly believe that person is out there. Her forever family is out there and we just need help sharing her story so that they can finally find each other. If you think that person might be you or if you can help us spread the word, please do.

Freyja is available for adoption through our Foster to Adopt Program. This means that Freyja can go home with the right person as a foster on a trial basis for a pre-determined length of time to see if she is in fact the perfect fit for the adopter's home. At the end of the trial period, if both parties agree, Freyja's temporary foster placement would transition officially into her adoptive home. Please email her adoption consultant at arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com to set up a meet and greet or to ask for further details.

Thank you for helping us give Freyja the happy ending she deserves.
