Frankie

This cute little fellow with the mysterious past is Frankie, a buff tabby who first appeared as a youngster in a rural area in winter 2023. He is estimated to have been born in Summer 2022. Kind neighbours were unable to bring him indoors but provided a warm shelter, water and regular meals for the next 3 years. He was relatively safe but didnt let people approach. In winter 2026 they reached out to local rescues and he was brought into care in January, but shortly after arriving at his foster home he slipped out and disappeared. He spent an entire month outside during one of the harshest stretches of winter in recent memory before he was finally found again. Amazingly he had been able to survive in unfamiliar surroundings and during brutally cold weather. <br/><br/>Once safely indoors again, we learned that he was in fact already neutered, so presumably Frankie had a home at some time in the past. But given his young age, and the fact that he is known to have been living outdoors for 3 years, we know that the majority of his life has been spent living rough outdoors, in survival mode and cautious for his own safety. <br/><br/>Indoors at last, Frankie at first kept a pretty low profile during the day, hiding in his safe place, but came to life at night, batting around toys and watching out the window - even more impressive considering his foster mom was sleeping in the same room. Over time he gradually became more used to his foster moms presence and the regular Temptations treats she tossed to him (his favourite food ever). This has evolved to a morning and evening routine of Frankie cuddling up next to his foster mom, awaiting his treats, then continuing to lie next to her, purring and enjoying pets and chin scratches. He has recently discovered the joys of being a lap cat and will happily curl up and relax on his foster moms lap every chance he can get!<br/><br/>Frankie is looking for an adopter who will use love, patience and treats to earn his trust and help him continue on his journey, learning how to enjoy other aspects of indoor life, such as being carried around, meeting visitors, etc. People walking around are still somewhat scary. Doorbells and visitors are scary, but coffee grinders and hairdryers arent so bad. The resident dog is interesting, but only when shes lying down - more caution is required if she is walking or barking. The resident cat, glimpsed through baby gates, is somewhat interesting. A calm and friendly cat or dog might be a good companion for Frankie.<br/><br/>NOTE 1: Spays, neuters, first vaccinations and vet checks are included in the adoption fee.<br/><br/>NOTE 2: Because a young kitten needs feline companionship, it is the policy of Cat Rescue Network that kittens 6 months or younger be adopted out in pairs unless there is another kitten or young cat already in the home.<br/><br/>NOTE 3: Cat Rescue Network only adopts their cats to homes in the National Capital region of Canada.
