Fog's Story
The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on." – Carl Sandburg
Fog’s foster mom found this poem after she met this delicate little dilute tortie, and it fits her perfectly. With her soft, muted gray coat and gentle presence, Fog looks like she’s stepped straight out of a misty morning. Petite and quiet, she’s a thoughtful observer of the world, always watching before deciding where she belongs.
Fog spent her early life outdoors, where being observant wasn’t just a personality trait, it was a survival skill. She learned when to stay still and when to disappear. A kind woman was feeding her, and Fog lingered nearby until it became clear she needed more help than could be given. Just before an extreme cold front swept into Nebraska, Fog was safely trapped and brought inside, where she’s been discovering the comforts of a warm, secure life ever since.
Pieces of her past still shape her preferences. Fog feels safest when she has something over or around her such as curled up under a chair, tucked into a tunnel, or perched on the middle level of a cat tree where she can observe without being exposed. She will venture out, but those cozy hiding spots are her comfort zones.
With people, Fog is shy and cautious. She studies humans carefully, weighing whether they are kind and trustworthy, and she truly appreciates a slow, gentle approach. Once she decides you’re safe, though, her sweet side emerges. She trusts her foster mom, enjoys pets, and absolutely loves being brushed. Head kisses, however? Those are a firm no. One attempted kiss earned her foster mom an immediate, deeply offended “how dare you” look.
Playtime has been a wonderful bridge for building trust. Fog is quite playful and enjoys teaser toys, zooming through tunnels, and proudly carrying toys around in her mouth. She gets along well with the cats and calm dogs in her foster home. She’d love to play with the resident cats, but they’re still deciding how they feel about their new roommate. The dogs don’t bother her, as long as they respect her space (and keep their kisses to themselves).
Fog would thrive in a quieter home with patient humans who will give her the time she needs to feel safe. While she hasn’t lived with children, there’s no reason to think she wouldn’t do well. Calmer, older kids would likely be an easier fit than very young, energetic ones. She’s comfortable with other cats and calm dogs and should adjust well to new furry companions with proper introductions.
Fog is fully litterbox trained and has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
