Fiona's Story

Meet Fiona, a beautiful 4-year-old brown tabby with a quiet spirit and a heart that blossoms with patience and understanding. Fiona came to us after a community cat trapper felt she would be much happier living life indoors. While shelter life was overwhelming for her, she has truly started to come out of her shell in foster care.

Fiona is the kind of cat who forms trust slowly-but once you earn it, it's incredibly special. She now greets her foster mom at the door, chats throughout the day, and happily lounges in her favorite chair watching the world outside the window. She's playful in her own independent way and enjoys batting around toys, exploring the house at night, and indulging in her favorite treats.

One of Fiona's sweetest qualities is how much trust she shows once she feels safe. She gives slow blinks, stretches out belly-up, and enjoys pets and brushing sessions-though she prefers affection on her own terms and is not yet a lap cat. Being picked up or forced into cuddles still makes her nervous, so she will need a patient adopter who understands that love and trust take time.

Fiona is already a happy, well-adjusted cat in the right environment, and we truly believe she will continue to grow more affectionate as she settles in. She's looking for a calm, understanding home with someone willing to let her move at her own pace and appreciate her gentle, independent nature.

If you're the kind of person who understands that the best relationships are built slowly and lovingly, Fiona may be the perfect companion for you.

Dog and cat adoptions are the foundation of our mission and the services we offer. After more than 48 years of helping find compatible and loving homes for the animals in our care, we still have a lot more to do. There are thousands of homeless animals in the Chicagoland area waiting to find homes. We hope that you will take the time to learn more about our adoption process and consider adopting one of our current residents. WSHS does its best to match adopters with the dog or cat that would be best suited to their family situation and lifestyle.
